To install Aero Pure Logon theme, you will require two things. First, you need to modify authui.dll in your System32 folder. Without modifying authui.dll, Windows 7 won’t allow you to change the Logon Screen. Then you’ll need DanielNet’s Logon Screen utility to change the background image of the logon screen.

The problem is there is no straight way to modify authui.dll since Windows 7 won’t provide enough permission to prevent malicious software from damaging computer. You can overcome this restriction by giving yourself the permission to modify the file. Just follow these instructions:

1. Go to the drive in which your Windows 7 is installed, and navigate to Windows/System32
2. Right click “authui.dll” and click on “Properties”
3. Go to the Security tab and click on Advanced button at the bottom.
4. Next go to Owner tab, and you’ll find that the owner is TrustedInstaller. Click on “Edit” button and change the ownership from TrustedInstaller to your username.
5. Click Ok, and go back to the Properties again, and click on Security. Choose your username listed under “Group or username”. This time, instead of clicking Advanced, click on Edit button
6. Click on your username again and check Full Control under permissions and click Ok.

Once you complete the above steps, you need to download Aero Pure Logon theme. Extract the archive using WinZip, 7Zip or anything similar. You will find the modified authui.dll, copy it and go back to Windows/System32 folder. Rename the original authui.dll to something, just in case. Now paste the modified authui.dll here.

If you haven’t installed Logon Screen utility, just install it and run. Click Browse, and use the image found inside Aero Pure archive and click on Apply. You should see Aero Pure logon screen every time you logon or lock your computer.

Please note that I have only tested Aero Pure with 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. Kevo Ma claims his logon screen works on all 64-bit versions of Windows 7

Kyocera announced it’s dual screen Android tab at Sprint’s event some days earlier. Seems like Acer has a similar idea in mind, but this time it’s bigger and faster. The Acer Touchbook perhaps is a dual screen netbook, since the common perception with tablets is that it’s screen size shouldn’t exceed 10 inches. Well, it’s just a myth we think, but people will be more comfortable with whatever the company calls it.

Looking into the spec sheet, we can find a dual 14-inch screens with a highly durable Gorilla Glass display, will feature the Intel Core i5 processor, and will run on Windows 7. There are some peppy new features with the display, where you can make a spherical shape with your hand or something similar to select the icons or objects on screen.

The device will start shipping to the United States next month and will cost $1,199.99 which is not much considering the fact that it provides you with two separate 14-inch screens plus a trendy interface.

One such potential was tapped by a Philadelphia developer to make Connectify – a free beta application which uses Virtual WiFi in Windows 7 to share your internet connection with other computers over WiFi. In a nutshell, your computer’s wireless adapter is turned into software-based Wireless router, which shows up as a WPA2 encrypted wireless hotspot for other computers.

You can participate in the beta by registering on Connectify homepage. It runs on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 only. Setting it up is fairly simple:

· Select the Internet connection you wish to share

· Choose a name for your new wireless network

· Choose a wireless passphrase

· Press the Internet Sharing button to turn on your wireless network

· Now, from your other devices, you can see your wireless network. Choose to join it, and enter the wireless passphrase to connect.

Connectify reminds me of JoikuSpot Light for Symbian devices, which does the same thing of sharing internet connection (3G or GPRS) using the phone’s wireless adapter. JoikuSpot Light eventually turned out to be a commercial product, but a free version is still available. Connectify is expected to have a similar fate.

1. Perform a clean install of Windows 7 and make sure there are no pending updates in Windows Update. Now go to Start Menu and type “regedit” and press the enter key. (UAC will show up, if enabled).

3. Change the value of MediaBootInstall from “1” to “0”

5. In the command prompt, type: slmgr /rearm and press enter. That’s all. Now try activating Windows 7 using your product key, it should work.

Windows 7 Starter:

As the name suggests, this is a starter version of Windows 7. Is is lightweight and lacks many features available in the other versions. This version comes pre-installed with netbooks only and is not available for purchase.

Features:

Better Wi-Fi and device management, the Jump lists(alt/windows+tab) is available but without the aero, you can also upgrade to Home Premium by using the in-place upgrade option, but you will be charged for it.

Non- Features:

No upgrade option from Windows XP or Vista, no 64-bit compatibility, Backup and restore option not available with network drives, lacks the Windows 7’s most appealing feature, ‘the aero’, theme management is disabled, Remote Desktop Host, BitLocker Drive Encryption, multitouch support, XP mode (to run Windows XP only programs) and the  Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player tools are nowhere to been seen with this edition.

I would suggest that only completely business-minded people, go for this edition as it is good for business netbooks.

Windows 7 Home Premium:

Home Premium is the basic version of the Windows 7 series and is available for purchase for a price of $199. Lot of features which aren’t available with the Starter are all packed in this, with many extra goodies.

Features:

Aero Peek , Aero Snap , Aero skin, Aero Shake (find out what these do at Microsoft Aero Features) are all up and running. Theme management is enabled,  Windows Media Center and Windows Media Player,  Multitouch, 64-bit(supports up to 16GB of physical RAM) are all available and anytime upgrade to either Professional or Ultimate is available too.

Non- Features:

Features like Location-aware printing, presentation mode, XP Mode, BitLocker, AppLocker, remote desktop host feature, Aero glass via remote, Backup and Restore with network drives are the features which aren’t available with this version.

For beginners who would love to have the Aero feel of the Windows 7 might want to go with this one as it is easy on the pocket too.

Windows 7 Professional:

This is a quite powerful version of Windows 7 and is definitely future friendly too. Other than the features present in the Home Premium it also packs some other awesome features that makes this both  Home and Business equipped.

Features:

Supports up to 192GB of physical RAM in 64-bit mode, XP Mode, works with two physical processors, back up and restore to a network drive is available.

Non- Features:

AppLocker, BitLocker are not supported. Aero glass and the multilingual interface support pack is also not supported.

The Windows 7 Professional is priced at $299 and it basically gives you a professional feeling.

Windows 7 Ultimate:

Like name, like Ultimate. The name itself describes how Ultimate this version is. The most advanced version of the Windows 7 franchise, this is the best version of Windows 7 that you can own. The Windows 7 Ultimate is priced at $ $319. It supports all the features and apart from that it also has virtual hard-disk booting and a subsystem for Unix applications. Windows 7 Ultimate sets a class of its own and I wonder, with its advanced features, is it even recommended for home or office use.

Owning a copy of Windows 7, equals owning a Lamborghini Reventon, except its not as expensive as the latter, but packs a lot of punch with respect to its features.

Microsoft launches Windows 7 on Thursday, as its most important release in more than a decade. After a very disappointing Vista, Microsoft is aiming to win back its customers and strengthen its grip over the PC market.

This significant launch comes 3 years after that of Windows Vista. The new Windows 7 is faster, less cluttered and more improved for its predecessor.

Microsoft is world’s largest software company, powers more than 90 percent of worlds personal computers. Windows 7 has received good reviews during its public testing with the release candidates over the past few months.

Windows 7 is available in 34bit and 64bit editions. Pre-sales on Amazon was at a all time high as Microsoft Windows 7 topped the sales charts. Windows 7 was the top seller in the software category.

Microsoft claims that major problems with Windows has been resolved in its latest operating system; Windows 7, which according to many who tested it have claimed it to be significantly more faster, improved and user friendly over the poor performing predecessor Windows Vista.

Pricing Cheaper than Vista:

Microsoft has prices its full version of Windows 7 Professional at $299 and upgrades are prices at $199. However Windows 7 has been priced at $319, with the upgrade version going at $219. The full version of Windows 7 Home Premium is priced at $199, with an upgrade from Vista or XP Costing $119 – InformationWeek

PC sales are expected to rise over the holiday season, when Windows 7 ships with PCs. It remains to be seen if the PC sales will get a boost due to Windows 7.

A few months ago the release candidate version, officially build 7100, made its way to the torrent sites, before showing up on Microsoft’s developer program sites. Then in a similar fashion official build 7600 made its way through for testing. 7600 RTM was last major public test of the product before it was finalized.

Microsoft, now looks like it is prepared to launch the final version of Windows 7, and is widely seen to be aiming to ship on PCs during this year’s approaching holiday season.

Vista according to several users has been a pain to use, and is considered as a failure. Microsoft itself has admitted to it its failure.

Microsoft, now aims to change all that, and the response from those who have tested the release candidate has been largely positive. Perhaps this time around, Microsoft may strike the nail on its head after all.

Microsoft also recently announced that Windows 7 will be released in 5 different editions in most markets: Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. Microsoft added that a "Windows 7 Basic" will also be sold in emerging markets.

With a few more hours to go before the launch, lets hope that the final version will continue to be an improved operating system over vista, and stable over its previous release candidate.

The launch is slated on Thursday, 22nd October 2009 at 8 AM PDT (Click here to see what time it is in your region). In India the launch time is 5.30PM.
