Ribbon Hero 2 improves on that concept with new cartoon style interface and different story line for Clippy (yes that annoying little clip which offered help in older versions of Office applications). The story begins with Bill Gates firing clippy. Poor clippy was forced to be homeless after his mom threw him out of their basement. With no option but to find a new job, clippy goes on a job hunt.

The game also encourages you to share your score with your friends on Facebook. Ribbon Hero 2 works only on Windows for Office 2007, 2010. Office 2011 for Mac users need to wait longer, perhaps for Ribbon Hero 3 to arrive? We are not sure on that either! You can download Ribbon Hero 2 from ribbonhero.com

As a cloud-based Office productivity suite, Microsoft is pitching Office 365 towards small businesses who are aiming to develop their workforce with collaborative and easy anywhere anytime access web based tools which work from any modern web-browser to muscle their workflow.

Microsoft’s Office suite turns eleven this year, and it has delight in success all these years, but in 2006 Google tossed Google Apps, which enables enterprises and small business owners to use cloud based collaborative tools such as Google Docs, Google Talk and even Gmail within their business for cheap. Though Microsoft Office wasn’t cloud based service, it directly dug into Microsoft revenue stream. According to a study by Business Insider, Google Apps is rapidly growing in Enterprise and Education sectors. Microsoft saw this as a clear threat to the existence of Office and started working towards a cloud-based Office productivity suite.

Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Office Division says:

“We’ve been in the cloud for years supporting large enterprises such as Shell and DuPont, but Office 365 takes that same technology power and delivers it to small businesses. More than 70 percent of the people who signed up for the limited beta were small businesses, so it clearly strikes a chord.”

Given the fact that large enterprises usually have a lot of decision making to do, I feel Microsoft’s target for Office 365 is spot on. Sooner or later, large enterprises will find value in Office 365 and would invest their money in it. Small to Medium sized business stand to gain as Google Apps finally has a big rival and competition is always healthy for the end-users.

To give a bit of boost, Microsoft is promoting Office 365 with a contest for small businesses. Qualifying business can share their success stories on Office 365 Facebook page. Stories will be picked based on community voting and winners will get access to Office 365 for year, when it comes out of beta. Winners will also receive $50,000 in advertising and business services along with a Microsoft Executive for a day, who will work with you or the charity of your choice.

Microsoft Office 365 is offer in two variants for large enterprise and small to medium sized business. Subscription starts at a minimum of $6.

Microsoft is following a typography based design principal called “Metro UI” previously realized in Media Center, Zune, and Windows Phone 7. Here’s a preview of what we can expect from Office 15 (click to enlarge screenshots):

Outlook email client has been overhauled with Metro UI, and to be frank it looks far cleaner and less cluttered, providing direct access to emails without any distractions around it. The next generation of Outlook will message, contacts, calendar and social utilities for personal and enterprise use.

“This product installation has been corrupted.  Please reinstall from original CD or source.”

According to Vikas Narula from Technet, the problem is cause by a missing file from the installation folder of Office 2010:

“To uninstall Office 2010 14.0.4302.1000 if you have an uninstall error message "This product installation has been corrupted". The Problem is a missing file in the installation folder of office 2010. Office 2010 as a Setup Controller directory and uses the directory to check the installed components. Please check he directory  "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE14\Office Setup Controller\Groove.en-us\". if you have no "Setup.xml" file there please copy the file from the "Groove.en-us" directory of the source files to this directory and test the uninstallation again”

To fix this issue, right click and save setup.xml to your computer and copy it to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE14\Office Setup Controller\Groove.en-us\

Now try uninstalling Office 2010 Technical Preview.

A quick search on Mininova will reveal both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Office 2010. Both x64 and x86 versions of Office 2010 have healthy seeders, and have been download 4,960 and 2,523 times respectively at the time of writing this post.

This is actually the first time Microsoft is releasing Office in both x86 and x64 flavors. This build of Office 2010 is numbered 14.0.4514.1009 and asks for activation key, as per Neowin. Check out some of the screenshots posted by CravingTech.com:

If you have tried the previous technical preview of Office 2010, you’ll immediately notice that the UI has been tuned a little. The icons for programs like Word, Excel and Powerpoint have also been facelifted.

Some users on Mininova commented that Office 2010 requires activation key to be used for more than 30 days, but other users have been able to find the workaround and activate it without any glitches. Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference (PDC) will be held at Los Angeles tomorrow, and I expect them to use this opportunity to release the beta to public and distribute free activation keys for the same, just like they did for Windows 7. You don’t really need any hardware upgrade for Office 2010. It runs on any machine which runs Office 2007. They’ve worked on the user interface, and from the screenshots, I must say, it really looks well. Microsoft seems to be having tough time with all these software leaks, but I think it’s doing more good than bad by giving them the much needed publicity.
