There were a few issues with the tablet itself which eventually led to people returning tablets back to the manufacturer. And now a retailer, woot.com has apparently sold a few units of the tablet which weren’t properly refurbished. The new buyers of the refurbished tablets found data on the tablet. This is clearly an error by Motorola, failing to perform a factory reset of the devices before putting them up for resale as refurbished devices. Information from old users like passwords, images etc were all found on these tablets.

Needless to say, Motorola has been quick to respond to the issue and has given out a press release. It is reported that the affected tablets belonged to the customers who returned the tablet between March and October 2011. On the brighter side, only 100 of the 6,200 devices returned during the period are said to be affected. Well, this is a rookie mistake from a company like Motorola and you might want to check with the company if you returned the tablet during the specified time frame. Motorola is offering 2 years of free Experian ProtectMyID for customers who have been affected by this. Instances like these could be avoided if users reset their device or back up the data before sending it over to the company.

Contact Motorola by heading over to the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi Return Submission page or simply contact Motorola via phone (1800-734-5870).

[Source]

Stories you may like:

T-Mobile U.S Selling Refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tabs for $99.99

HTC to roll out 3 new tablets

Motorola XOOM on Verizon starting from $600

This article, Retailer Selling Refurbished XOOM Tablets With Old User Data, was published at TechBuzz. Google finally has a valid and stable alibi for the patent infringement accusations by market rivals. Motorola Mobility has over 17,000 patents to its name, which will greatly benefit Google in the long run. Motorola Mobility had expressed its intentions to jump in to the patent wars some time ago.

The deal has been welcomed by other brands like HTC, LG and Sony Ericsson. And to the shareholders’ delight, the share prices of Motorola Mobility (MMI) nearly doubled after the deal was announced. Motorola Mobility has not had a great 2011 and it would only make more sense for the company to come under Google’s refuge. The acquisition which includes the entire mobile division of Motorola will benefit Google greatly. The deal is said to be finalized by the end of this year or early 2012.

The CEO of Google, Larry Page stated in a blog post – “Motorola’s total commitment to Android in mobile devices is one of many reasons that there is a natural fit between our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers everywhere”. Evidently, the folks at Google are pretty pumped up about the deal which will, to some extent strengthen its case against the accusations laid upon the company by Apple and Microsoft.

Stories you may like:

Sprint and Motorola Announce the XPRT and Titanium

Motorola Intends To Upgrade the Atrix 4G to Gingerbread

Motorola XOOM Users Might Receive an OTA Update of Android 3.1

This article, Motorola Mobility Will Be Bought By Google, was published at TechBuzz. International or global sellers like Samsung, HTC and others have a line up of budget Android handsets for the mid ranged consumer market across the globe. And now new to that list will be Motorola which has announced the arrival of a budget Android handset called the XT316. This Android handset apparently will go up against the likes of the BlackBerry Curve 3G and other Nokia QWERTY devices that are priced in the same range. The handset will be called the Spice Key in the Americas and as the Fire in Europe.

The device will feature a 2.8 inch display with a QVGA resolution and, a 3MP camera, 600MHz of processor (Adreno 200 GPU), 512 MB of on board storage with 256 MB of RAM, 3G HSPA capabilities, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The phone is currently being sold in China and some other Asian countries will get the handset in the coming months. The pricing of the device is going to be very crucial.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Motorola to launch dual–sim Android handsets in India

Sony Ericsson Announces Its New Walkman Phone with Android

Samsung Galaxy S II Launches in South Korea, Will be Followed By Other Global Markets

This article, Motorola Announces the Mid Ranged Android Handset ‘Fire’ (Spice Key), was published at TechBuzz. And to add to the list, an 8MP rear camera with a 3 MP front facing camera, 8GB of internal storage, an HDMI port to plug it into an HD TV, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a relatively bigger 1880 mAh battery and a CDMA EV-DO/GSM feature which means that it can hold a CDMA and a GSM connection. The phone will cost somewhere close to the Chinese alternative of $830. It’s rather sad that this phone is an exclusive to China, but dual mode and dual standby handsets are not new to China, so no doubt this phone is made with China in mind. Here’s hoping that Motorola changes its mind and launches the cellphone worldwide.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Motorola to launch dual–sim Android handsets in India

Sprint and Motorola Announce the XPRT and Titanium

A Windows Phone 7 Knock Off From China

This article, Motorola XT882 “Triple Dual Power” Phone Will Hit Chinese Markets This Month, was published at TechBuzz. This is particularly disappointing considering the fact that this is one of Verizon’s finest handsets yet. Something similar happened with the launch of the Samsung Droid Charge, when the device was launched and Big Red’s network went down the very day of the launch, ruining the big arrival for Samsung. It is now being said that the Motorola Droid X2 will be launched on the 26th of May and direct fulfillment orders will start from May 19, by then we hope Verizon is able to sort out the network outage issue.

The Droid X2 will feature a 4.3-inch qHD display with a resolution of 540 x 960, an 8 MP camera on the back capable of 720p playback and recording, a 1GHz dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU, 8 GB of internal storage with a microSD card of 8 GB, HDMI output and will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Also to be noted is the fact that Verizon is rolling out an official Android 2.3 update for the original Droid X. The Atrix as many of us might know, still runs on Android 2.2 Froyo. And considering the fact that Motorola always cautions its customers to purchase the device for what it is when they buy it and not expect anything in future, we thought that the Gingerbread update was out of question. But now after what the VP has said, it seems like an Android 2.3 update is very likely in the future. And this update would be carried out both in the U.S and the UK at the same time.

The Atrix 4G has been available for a while in the U.S and more recently it was launched in the UK without 4G, and with this new revelation by Motorola we expect more potential buyers to go forward and purchase this beast of a handset. But now we seem to have an answer to all those rumors. Google’s Andrew Kovacs speaking with PCMag said that, Google won’t be bringing out Android 3.0 or Honeycomb for cell phones, for the time being at least, maintaining its exclusivity for tablets like the T-Mobile G-Slate and Motorola Xoom.

This news is quite disappointing, especially to those who were considering the possibility of Honeycomb being implemented into cellphones. But Kovacs claimed that some features of the platform would arrive on cellphones overtime. We’re not sure as to which feature of the OS could be borrowed or implemented for handsets. This is a welcome sign though.

via PC Mag

Stories you may like:

Android 3.0 Honeycomb could support cellphones

Android 3.0 Honeycomb revealed

Google preparing for an Android event on Feb 2

This article, Honeycomb would be a tablet only OS for the time being, was published at TechBuzz. It packs a 3.7 inch capacitive display, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi and an expandable memory of 32 GB.

This phone was marketed earlier by Motorola in China, with the name Zhishang. Motorola now plan on expanding their market by introducing this phone in India. The dual-sim feature has been a game changer in Indian markets with more and more dual-sim handsets appearing each day. The phone would be priced at around 20,000 Indian Rupees($439) and would run on the almost outdated Android 2.1 Éclair which is quite disappointing considering what these brands are providing in other countries. Either ways, it’s a good marketing strategy to launch these phones in India where Android handsets are not as abundant as they are in other countries.

Stories you may like:

India aims for 10$ Laptop

India over takes US as Nokia’s Second Largest Market

Apple not interested in India?

This article, Motorola to launch dual–sim Android handsets in India, was published at TechBuzz.
