After installing the app, launch Splashtop Remote and finish the setup process appropriately. Now you can configure the Remote Streamer application. You can now turn it on or off, configure network and security settings. When you finish doing all of this, go to your iPhone or iPod Touch and start using the downloaded app. After scanning through the list of computers that are Remote Streamer enabled, you may select your computer.

Enter the password you used when setting up the desktop app and now you can access your desktop with your iPhone or iPod Touch. You may move the cursor, double click an application on the desktop, right click or left click etc. You will see an icon on the top left portion of the screen which will bring out a virtual keyboard. This keyboard acts as a full PC keyboard, with more buttons, arrow keys and a windows button as well. You may tap on the same button on the top left corner to go back to use the device as a touchpad. You can change the sensitivity controls of the TouchPad according to your liking.

The Splashtop Remote TouchPad is an intuitive and easy to use application letting you remotely control your desktop through an iPhone or an iPod Touch from your office or at your friend’s place. But bear in mind that you need to be on a Wi-Fi network to access this feature.

The Translate app supports 15 different languages which translates sentences. Plus, 50 different languages to translate words on your device. The app also lets you view dictionary results of the words like the web version of the app, and lets you view recently translated words or sentences when offline. This app is now available in the AppStore, compatible with iOS version 3 or further and only for the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

When Apple introduced FaceTime, everybody were excited. But the excitement was short lived. Because, FaceTime only lets you make calls using Wi-Fi and these calls can only be made with fellow iOS devices like the iPhone 4 and the 4th Gen iPod Touch.

Well, Tango is an application available for both iOS and Android devices, and it lets you make video calls using 3G data unlike FaceTime which needs Wi-Fi. Tango has been an instant hit with the users with app downloads reaching a million every 2 weeks.

The application has seen immense growth in the past few months, hitting 8  million downloads (that’s a growth of 7 million downloads in 3 months) since it was first introduced around 4 months ago. Looking at the current flow, it is common sense to predict that the app would grow even further.

Most gadgets or cellphones today are made of highly sensitive capacitive screens. These portable devices could be used anywhere and at any given time. In winter, people tend to wear gloves to keep themselves warm. In situations like these, it gets very hard to use these devices. Well, Apple have come up with a solution to this. They have patented gloves which are specifically made for use during winter. These gloves would be called the ‘Magic Gloves’ and is still in its research stages. 

As we all know, iOS devices including the iPhone, the iPod Touch and the iPad are based on highly sensitive capacitive touchscreens with proximity sensors. Due to the high sensitivity, it is very difficult to operate these devices wearing gloves. So this seems like an innovative move by Apple. These gloves we presume, would be highly priced and would hopefully be out by winter.

We all know how companies are striving to make gadgets 3 dimensional. There are some other companies who have had the genius idea of implementing this technology into cell phones. Companies like Sharp and LG have some glasses free 3D  phones up their sleeves which could be launched anytime this year. Spectacular indeed.

But now Japanese blog Kanteidan suggests that Apple might be considering something like this for their iPod touch devices. If this report is true, we could see the technology implemented on iPhones too since they have the same multi-touch display. Other reports claim that Apple are also working on a technology to control a game using FaceTime and face recognition. Well, Apple have had the uniqueness factor in every device they’ve launched so far. Could this be the best technological advancement by them yet?

Dorsey’s new company is called Self Edge NYC, and the product is named as Square iPhone Payment System hosted at SquareUp.com. Basically, it’s a small plastic dongle which fits into the headphone jack of an iPhone or iPod Touch. It has the ability to read data from Credit Cards and transfer it to the iPhone application of the same.

A customer has to swipe his card over the dongle, and the staff will tell the application how much to charge the customer. The customer then reviews it, and confirms it by using a hand gesture over his signature and fills his email address to send the receipt. Square will process the payment and transfer funds to the store’s bank account directly. They’ll charge a small percentage, and/or a fixed fee for processing the payment. Customer’s receipt will include a map of the location where the transaction was done, which makes it extremely easy to keep track of your spending and file receipts wisely.

This revelation comes from Engadget! They noticed squareup.com on system’s receipts. Checking the whois information of that domain exposed its contact information as billing [AT] paybysquirrel.com. This is how link between Dorsey’s Squirrel and Square were found.

Personally, I don’t see a reason why I’d prefer an iPhone-based Point of Sale terminal instead of the regular ones. But this thing sure has its own potential. Anything iPhone is uber-cool these days.

iPod Nano: The latest iPod nano has a built in video camera, mic and speaker. You can now shoot spontaneous video when you are listening to music, and view it later or transfer it to your computer. Another blessed new feature in the nano is the inclusion of a built-in FM tuner with Live Pause and iTunes Tagging. Live Pause lets you pause FM radio, while iTunes Tagging simply enables you to tag songs from Genius results in your nano, and then preview or purchase it using iTunes from your computer. iPod nano can keep track of your steps taken and calories burned using the built-in pedometer. iTunes 9: The shiny new iTunes 9 has been redesigned a little, but the most exciting feature is iTunes LP. Basically, iTunes LP is immersive experience for select albums on the iTunes Store with slick visual features like live performance videos, lyrics, artwork, liner notes, interviews, photos, album credits and more.

Home Sharing is another great feature which lets you share music, movies, TV shows, and more with up to five authorized computers in your house, import songs and automatically transfer purchased songs to other computers in your household. Home Sharing requires an iTunes account.
