Buyers of the new iPad have been complaining about having Wi-Fi related issues on their device and Apple has been quick to acknowledge the issue and offer replacements. Well, the source has accessed the Apple Care  document that Apple sent out to its stores which clearly mentions the symptoms and the conditions at which the plagued iPad is to be received and replaced. If you recently got a new iPad and are having Wi-Fi related issues like slow connection speed, unstable connection and not being able to see a Wi-Fi network at all you are an eligibile candidate for the replacement.

In the company’s own words – “In the United States, contact centers and retail stores should capture iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi only devices if they exhibit any issue related to Wi-Fi”.

The Wi-Fi bug persists only in the third generation Wi-Fi models of the iPad. Thankfully enough for Apple, the 4G+Wi-Fi models of the iPad seem unaffected (as of now). We’re not sure if all the new Wi-Fi only iPads are affected by this, but the forums are currently flooded with complaints so a large chunk of the customers are complaining. A bug like this would generally be solved by a software update, but it seems to be a hardware issue here. Apple would want to resolve this particular bug before it grows larger.

According to John Gruber who is an Apple blogger, Apple currently has a 7.85 inch iPad prototype being tested and developed in its labs. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the device is being prepped for launch. He said with certainty that there is at least one mini sized iPad being played around with in Apple’s labs.

Before we go ahead with this story, we must realize that Apple often tests certain prototypes before bringing it into circulation or making it public. This means that there could have been an array of prototypes of various Apple devices that the company must have ultimately ditched. The point here is that, we have no reason to get excited about this new smaller sized tablet since it’s still a prototype. For all we know, it could have already been ditched. Its existence however isn’t being disputed.

Gruber speaking to The Talk Show said – “I’ve heard from multiple people that this is something that they’re kind of noodling with”. He also went on to say that this version of the iPad runs on a native resolution of 1024×768. Well, with the iPad 2’s prices being slashed to make way for the new iPad, it is unlikely that Apple would want a smaller budget ranged iPad in the market.

The iPad has taken the world ablaze which is evident from the sales numbers of the tablet. The introduction of the iPad 2 only made things better for Apple with the sales going over the roof. Sadly for Android OEMs, their tablets arrived a little too late into the mix. Maybe that’s why these tablets are still slowly catching up with the growing and steadily changing market. The only Android tablet with significant sales figure has to be the original Samsung Galaxy Tab which was very unique for its time. But the sales figures of Android tablets post the iPad launch has been nothing to write home about.

And now it is being reported that the Apple iPad has sold more units than the Samsung Galaxy Tabs in South Korea. This is ironic since Samsung is a Korean company, so it has a distinct home advantage. Despite having an edge over Apple, the tabs have been outsold by the Apple iPad. This comes as a surprise to us all. But that’s what the figures state with the iPad’s market share in South Korea being 70-80%. That’s a handful. Things however could change in the coming days when quad core droid powered tablets arrive, but at the same time there is the Apple iPad 3 in tow (quad core A6 chip rumored) for a March announcement. We would expect Samsung’s home country to have some faith in the company, but that’s clearly not the case here.

iPhone Dev Team has not released an official utility to jailbreak iOS 5, but MuscleNerd confirms on Twitter that you can jailbreak iOS 5 GM using Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for Mac or Windows.

If you happen to own a jailbroken iPhone or an iPad, then this means you can safely upgrade to iOS 5 and jailbreak it! The catch is that, Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for iOS 5 is a tethered jailbreak. It might sound disappointing for some because tethered jailbreaks requires you to connect your iOS device to your computer every time you run out of battery juice or reboot your device, but until Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5 is made available, this sounds like a viable option.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5 with Redsn0w 0.9.9B2

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for Mac or PC

After installing the app, launch Splashtop Remote and finish the setup process appropriately. Now you can configure the Remote Streamer application. You can now turn it on or off, configure network and security settings. When you finish doing all of this, go to your iPhone or iPod Touch and start using the downloaded app. After scanning through the list of computers that are Remote Streamer enabled, you may select your computer.

Enter the password you used when setting up the desktop app and now you can access your desktop with your iPhone or iPod Touch. You may move the cursor, double click an application on the desktop, right click or left click etc. You will see an icon on the top left portion of the screen which will bring out a virtual keyboard. This keyboard acts as a full PC keyboard, with more buttons, arrow keys and a windows button as well. You may tap on the same button on the top left corner to go back to use the device as a touchpad. You can change the sensitivity controls of the TouchPad according to your liking.

The Splashtop Remote TouchPad is an intuitive and easy to use application letting you remotely control your desktop through an iPhone or an iPod Touch from your office or at your friend’s place. But bear in mind that you need to be on a Wi-Fi network to access this feature.

Apple’s Tim Cook today when giving out Apple’s Q2 results, went on to say that Apple is Samsung’s largest customer and both companies have a brief idea about the strong relationship that they have. This comes after Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung alleging trademark infringement. Tim also said that they tried to settle the issue out of court but were obliged to take this step after the mobile division of Samsung “crossed the line”. Apple alleges that Samsung has copied some key design elements from the iPad and the iPhone accordingly. But Cook thinks Samsung and Apple will maintain a healthy relationship despite the ongoing legal tussle between the two giants. According to researchers, Apple iPhones and 3G enabled iPads are keeping track and recording all of their owners movements. As per security experts Pete Warden and Alasdair Allan, the data recorded is kept in an unencrypted and a hidden file. The Guardian was the first to report about this.

Apparently, if provided with the right software it is possible to track exactly where the person has been so far more like a tracker of some sort. There is no valid prove or disprove this though. Apple hasn’t commented yet on this alleged revelation. Things get worse since there’s no indication of any sort on the iPhones on the iPads about this. But Apple’s terms of use gives us a slight hint of this – “We may collect information such as occupation, language, zip code, area code, unique device identifier, location, and the time zone where an Apple product is used so that we can better understand customer behaviour and improve our products, services, and advertising”.

The experts however writing on a tech website claimed that this was “clearly intentional” from Apple. They also revealed that the ability to track a user’s movements came with the iOS 4 update which was available from June 2010. This could be a major setback to Apple if proved to be right, however if it isn’t the experts who reported this could be in a world of trouble. I think Apple tracks the user’s movements to a certain extent but it isn’t something that is illegal. So maybe next time reading the terms of use shouldn’t be much of a bother.

It gets very frustrating at times when iPhone apps don’t share the same graphics on the iPad due to the bigger screen. Images get pixelated and it gets very annoying. But an app called RetinaPad enables the RetinaDisplay and makes iPhone apps work perfectly without any pixel formation and increases the clarity and visibility of iPhone apps on your iPad.

The Apple iPad has been extensively used by educational, medical institutions around the globe. The teachers find it more easy to interact with the students with the help of an iPad. Now Apple, is offering an exchange of the original iPad with the new iPad 2 to some institutions.

One such beneficiary of this offer is the Rutgers’ Center for Management Development. This institution has integrated most parts of its teaching module with iPads making it more interactive and highly efficient. This institution basically offers social media marketing and digital marketing courses. And Apple has offered to trade them the iPad 2 in exchange to the original iPad.

Eric Greenberg, the professor of the institution said that they expected to tell their students that the timing of the iPad 2 launch was really unfortunate, and that Apple really took him by surprise by being so flexible. The local Apple outlet in Freehold, New Jersey is stocking up the new iPad 2s for the students. It must also be noted that Apple are not charging any sort of restocking fee for the swapping.

Greenberg is concerned about the lack of Adobe Flash on the device, and thinks that the institution might need another tablet with these functions. But believes that the new camera functions will be a treat to use.

Refurbished iPad are selling for an even lower price of $349 (16GB WiFi). First gen iPad owners who recently purchased their beloved tablets are certainly going to be pissed, but that’s just the way Apple does business. They have done it in the past, and that’s certainly what they’ll do in future.

This application like the iPhone or the iPod Touch will work only on Wi-Fi networks. And since the iPad doesn’t have a front facing camera, the person on the other side will see a black screen, but will still be able to hear you through the built in microphone on the iPad. This version of FaceTime seems to work pretty well without any hitches. And since a lot has been spoken about the iPad’s successor already, we think it wont take long till FaceTime gets officially implemented.

Most gadgets or cellphones today are made of highly sensitive capacitive screens. These portable devices could be used anywhere and at any given time. In winter, people tend to wear gloves to keep themselves warm. In situations like these, it gets very hard to use these devices. Well, Apple have come up with a solution to this. They have patented gloves which are specifically made for use during winter. These gloves would be called the ‘Magic Gloves’ and is still in its research stages. 

As we all know, iOS devices including the iPhone, the iPod Touch and the iPad are based on highly sensitive capacitive touchscreens with proximity sensors. Due to the high sensitivity, it is very difficult to operate these devices wearing gloves. So this seems like an innovative move by Apple. These gloves we presume, would be highly priced and would hopefully be out by winter.

Apple is being widely criticized by Chinese environmentalist groups for polluting the country and showing negligent attitude towards environmental protection in China, raising health and safety concerns among the workers. A report by environmentalist groups considers Apple to be the least responsive among the two dozen plus technological companies established in China. The Director of the Institute of Environmental and Public Affairs spoke to Bloomberg in an interview – “We originally thought that Apple, as a corporate citizen, would take a leadership role, but now we feel they ended up as the most obstructive.”

Allegations have also been placed on a company called Wintek Corp, who apparently manufacture screens for iPhones and iPads. According to the report, poisonous chemicals were used in the production of these screens and some workers had also been hospitalized due to nerve damage. The company has stopped using the chemical N-Hexane ever since and claims that all hospitalized workers have returned to their respective jobs. Apple on the other hand are reluctant to consider Wintek as a supplier.

So far, this is just a concept of Chrome OS’s touch interface, but Telegraph claims that Google is already in talks with HTC, the handset manufacturer behind Google branded Nexus One and countless other Android powered handsets.

“Although Chromium is not an official Google website, the concept video has been put together by Glen Murphy, one of Google’s Chrome OS designers. Google is also reportedly in discussions with Taiwanese consumer electronics giant HTC about making a touch-screen tablet computer. HTC already makes many of the mobile phones that run Google’s Android operating system, and designed and built Google’s own-brand handset, the Nexus One.”

Chrome OS was initially meant for the netbooks and this concept could very well mean they could be considering the possibility of scaling their new operating system to touch input based tablet computers as well. Meanwhile, companies like HP are already working on their own tablet computers.

Chrome OS tablet actually sounds like a neat idea, if at all it ever sees the light of the day. Since hardware manufacturers like Dell and HP would very soon be rolling out their own iPad killers, it makes sense for Google to support touch input devices for Chrome OS.
