The app has now been updated to bring some added functionality. Google’s major upgrade for this new update is the <strong>real time collaboration</strong>. What this means is that like the desktop version of Google Docs, users with shared documents can edit the documents simultaneously and the changes will happen at real time. That’s a pretty neat addition to the app.</p><p>The overall interface has been tweaked by Google to make it much more user friendly. The update has made Google Docs more fun to use, and this goes to show that the Google Docs team has been doing a lot to bring these new features to the mix. Users can now experience a native text editor on Google Docs as well instead of the standard mobile version which was very sluggish. A native cursor has also been provided which will make navigation very easy. All in all, Google Docs has gone through a cosmetic as well as internal tweaking so as to meet the needs of the user. So Google Docs for Android has been taken to the next level with this new update, what do you guys think? Would you have liked to see anything new in the update?</p><p>Check out the video for more on the new features</p><p><iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/iwmG43D0vD4?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" width="530" height="360"></iframe></p><p>[<a title="Source" href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/collaborate-and-edit-anywhere-with.html" target="_blank">Source</a>] [<a title="Via" href="http://www.phonearena.com/news/Google-Docs-for-Android-gets-another-big-update_id27156" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Via</a>]</p><p>Stories you may like:<ol><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2011/04/14/google-adds-pagination-feature-to-google-docs/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Adds Pagination Feature to Google Docs'>Google Adds Pagination Feature to Google Docs</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/10/18/google-docs-goes-mobile/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Docs Goes Mobile!'>Google Docs Goes Mobile!</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/06/09/google-docs-and-spreadsheet-opens-up/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up'>Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up</a></li></ol></p><p>This article, <a href="http://tech-buzz.net/2012/02/22/google-docs-for-android-updated/">Google Docs For Android Updated</a>, was published at <a href="http://tech-buzz.net">TechBuzz</a>. It looks like they have taken the first shot at Google Docs with their new campaign “<a href="http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/businessproductivity/en-us/Why-Microsoft/compare-demo/Pages/google-documents-vs-word-web-app.aspx">The Future of Productivity Starts Here</a>” comparing Office 365 to Google Docs. This time, they have decided to take an unorthodox direct approach towards throwing mud at Google’s face with a micro-site comparing Word Web App with Google Docs, underlining particular consistency issues in formatting which plagues Google Docs.</p><p><a href="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/web-word-app-vs-google-docs.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto; display: block; float: none;" title="Office 365 vs Google Docs" src="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/web-word-app-vs-google-docs_thumb.png" alt="Office 365 vs Google Docs" width="500" height="279" /></a></p><p>Microsoft made two copied of a word file and uploaded them to Word Web App (<a href="http://cid-9fbe63963526eb25.office.live.com/view.aspx/Website%20Demo%20Files/Demo-Hayden-Management.docx">link</a>) and Google Docs (<a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1woLz_vYkV7_YUz1kMU5OyqvD7y9TANJ3BJ6_5KyQPYk/edit?hl=en&amp;ndplr=1&amp;pli=1">link</a>) to point out several flaws seen in the way how Google handles Word Documents. These files are publicly visible to everyone. Here’s a quote from one of their pages <a href="http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/businessproductivity/en-us/Why-Microsoft/Pages/Google-Apps.aspx">comparing Google vs Microsoft</a> side by side:</p><blockquote><p>“Google Apps is an ever-changing solution with experimental features that can increase complexity and the need for change management and training.”</p><p>“Google Apps isn’t familiar to most information workers and it’s oversimplified. In fact, Google’s own executives admit they don’t believe their tools can replace Microsoft Office. Using Google Docs often leads to frustration with loss of document integrity and loss of formatting”</p></blockquote><p>As ironic as it may sound, when I tried to open Word Web App link, this is what my browser told me:</p><p><a href="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/word-web-app-error.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto; display: block; float: none;" title="Word Web App Error" src="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/word-web-app-error_thumb.png" alt="Word Web App Error" width="500" height="257" /></a></p><p>Personally, I believe word conversion is a very small piece of what Google Docs has to offer. Word is Microsoft’s proprietary format, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that they do it better. I’m yet to try Office 365 myself, and I’m hoping Microsoft did a very good job at it. Competition always benefits the end users!</p><p>Stories you may like:<ol><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/06/09/google-docs-and-spreadsheet-opens-up/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up'>Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2006/06/27/test-drive-of-microsoft-office-2007-online/' rel='bookmark' title='Test Drive of Microsoft Office 2007 online'>Test Drive of Microsoft Office 2007 online</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2011/04/14/google-adds-pagination-feature-to-google-docs/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Adds Pagination Feature to Google Docs'>Google Adds Pagination Feature to Google Docs</a></li></ol></p><p>This article, <a href="http://tech-buzz.net/2011/04/23/office-365-microsoft-takes-the-first-shot-at-google-docs/">Office 365: Microsoft Takes The First Shot at Google Docs</a>, was published at <a href="http://tech-buzz.net">TechBuzz</a>. Users can now see page breaks in documents which is something totally new to Google Docs and is a tad similar to MS Word. It also sees to it that headers appear at the top and the footers appear at the bottom.</p><p>This new feature will be called the Pagination, which will give more meaning to your document than before. And of course this feature is user controlled, you may access this particular feature by clicking on View and selecting Document View and finally choosing either Paginated or retain the Compact View which is the straight page layout without any breaks.</p><p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4762" title="Google Docs" src="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Google-Docs-442x400.png" alt="Google Docs" width="442" height="400" /></p><p>Google has also added a native printing feature where the files from Google Docs get printed directly instead of converting them into PDF and printing it through a PDF reader like before. But this feature only works with Chrome for the time being. Though <a rel="nofollow" href="http://googledocs.blogspot.com/2011/04/pagination-comes-to-google-docs.html">Google</a> hopes that other browsers too would implement this feature and enable native document printing soon.</p><p>Stories you may like:<ol><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2009/01/13/copying-documents-saved-on-google-docs-to-your-account/' rel='bookmark' title='Copying Documents Saved on Google Docs to Your Account'>Copying Documents Saved on Google Docs to Your Account</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/07/03/try-google-docs-dictionary-and-thesaurus/' rel='bookmark' title='Try Google Docs Dictionary and Thesaurus'>Try Google Docs Dictionary and Thesaurus</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/06/09/google-docs-and-spreadsheet-opens-up/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up'>Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up</a></li></ol></p><p>This article, <a href="http://tech-buzz.net/2011/04/14/google-adds-pagination-feature-to-google-docs/">Google Adds Pagination Feature to Google Docs</a>, was published at <a href="http://tech-buzz.net">TechBuzz</a>. Multiple users can be granted access to these documents at the same time and therefore it helps teams collaborate online.</p><p>Google Docs may not be as versatile as the leading desktop word processing applications, but Google has often updated the suite with new capabilities and features. Google Docs may not have all the bells and whistles as present in the other softwares, but it has always met a basic users needs.</p><p>Google will soon churn out the following updates to Google Docs.</p><blockquote><p>Now, your search results will display the items most relevant to your search at the top of the list. We also added a new menu on the right side of the toolbar, which lets you decide whether you&#8217;d like to sort your Docs list by &quot;Relevance,&quot; &quot;Starred&quot; or &quot;Last Modified&quot;.<a href="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/googledocs.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="google-docs" border="0" alt="google-docs" src="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/googledocs_thumb.png" width="450" height="43" /></a> This improvement to search within Docs also includes automatic stemming and synonyms. So if you search for &quot;check account&quot;, we&#8217;ll also include results for a few variations of those words, including &quot;checking account&quot; (which is what you probably meant to type). Or if you search for &quot;mac book&quot;, we&#8217;ll also include results for &quot;macbook&quot;.</p><p><strong>Export all your files <br /></strong>There&#8217;s also <a href="http://googledocs.blogspot.com/2009/10/data-liberation-mark-as-viewed-and-new.html">more good news</a> from the <a href="http://www.dataliberation.org/">Data Liberation Front</a>. A few weeks ago we launched the new &quot;Export&#8230;&quot; functionality. Today, we added an &quot;Export all&quot; option, which lets you export all your docs (up to 2GB at a time) with one click. This is the equivalent of almost 100,000 Google Docs.</p><p> <a href="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/googledocs1.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="google docs" border="0" alt="google docs" src="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/googledocs_thumb1.png" width="450" height="422" /></a><p>You can also export a single file and email it to anyone you&#8217;d like in a single step. Once you select an item, click &quot;Share&quot; and select &quot;Email as attachment&#8230;&quot;. Then pick which format (PDF, MS Office, etc.) you want to use to send the item, compose your email, and hit send.<a href="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/googledocs2.png"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" title="google docs 2" border="0" alt="google docs 2" src="http://tech-buzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/googledocs2_thumb.png" width="450" height="394" /></a></p><p><strong>Sunsetting Email-In Your Documents and Files</strong></p><p>Lastly, a change that we aren&#8217;t excited about. We&#8217;re removing the existing &quot;email-in&quot; feature. As you may know, it&#8217;s been a bit buggy recently and only supports a small subset of document types compared to the Docs list. In order to address this, we&#8217;ll be taking down the feature and working on a bringing it back in the future with more functionality and better integration.</p><p>In the meantime, you can use the multi-file upload in your Docs list or the <a href="http://code.google.com/apis/documents/overview.html">GData API</a> to programmatically upload docs. You can also take attachments from GMail and <a href="http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&amp;answer=30719">open them in Google Docs</a>.</p></blockquote><p>[Via: <a href="http://googledocs.blogspot.com/2009/12/sort-by-relevance-export-all-and-more.html">Google</a>]</p><p>Stories you may like:<ol><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/10/18/google-docs-goes-mobile/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Docs Goes Mobile!'>Google Docs Goes Mobile!</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/06/09/google-docs-and-spreadsheet-opens-up/' rel='bookmark' title='Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up'>Google Docs and Spreadsheet Opens Up</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/04/11/would-you-like-to-export-your-gmail-messages/' rel='bookmark' title='Would you like to export your Gmail Messages?'>Would you like to export your Gmail Messages?</a></li></ol></p><p>This article, <a href="http://tech-buzz.net/2009/12/10/google-docs-update-now-you-can-sort-by-relevance-export-all-and-more/">Google Docs Update: Now You Can Sort By Relevance, Export All And More</a>, was published at <a href="http://tech-buzz.net">TechBuzz</a>.
