I recently stumbled on a free open source Java Desktop application called <em><a target="_blank" href="http://flickredit.javaforge.com/webstart/flickredit.jnlp">FlickrEdit</a></em> that enables backup of all Flickr photos on your personal computer. Not only that, it also allows burning of these photos on a CD or a DVD with great ease.</p><p align="left">Using <a target="_blank" href="http://flickredit.javaforge.com/webstart/flickredit.jnlp">FlickrEdit</a>, you can download or upload any photo to and from Flickr. Besides taking backup, FlickrEdit features photo search based on date and tags; rotation of photos; deletion of photos or sets; switch between multiple Flickr users; display your Not in Set, Recent, Favorites, Contacts and Group photos, and much more.</p><p align="left">The new application is written in Java and uses flickrj framework for accessing Flickr.</p><p align="left"><img border="0" width="652" src="http://sunkencity.org/images/8.png" alt="FlickrEdit" height="514" /></p><p align="left">Here&#8217;s what you need to do in order to get started.</p><ol><li><p align="left">Launch FlickrEdit from <a target="_blank" href="http://flickredit.javaforge.com/webstart/flickredit.jnlp">here</a>. Alternatively, install the Windows executable on Windows platform or Java jar file on other platforms from <a target="_blank" href="http://www.javaforge.com/proj/doc.do?doc_id=40908">here</a>.</p></li><li><p align="left">Install the application after the download and run it. You&#8217;ll receive a prompt to enter your Flickr account login details.</p></li><li><p align="left">Enter the login details and proceed to a window containing all your Flickr Photos.</p></li><li><p align="left">Select the photos you want to backup and run the backup Wizard.</p></li><li><p align="left">Choose between the two options:<br /> + Backup to hard drive (you can also create zip files using this option.)<br /> + Backup to Media (you can burn photos to a CD or DVD disc using this option.)</p></li><li><p align="left">Click the Start Backup button to backup all the selected photos. If you have a large amount of photos, the time taken for backup will also be more.</p></li></ol><p align="left">Finally, if you are looking for a better way to access your Flickr Photos, you can surely try <a target="_blank" href="http://flickredit.javaforge.com/webstart/flickredit.jnlp">FlickrEdit</a> without a second thought.</p><p>Stories you may like:<ol><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/05/04/yahoo-photos-is-shutting-down-go-flickr-go/' rel='bookmark' title='Yahoo Photos is shutting down, Go Flickr Go!'>Yahoo Photos is shutting down, Go Flickr Go!</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/11/15/two-billion-photos-uploaded-to-flickr/' rel='bookmark' title='Two Billion Photos Uploaded to Flickr'>Two Billion Photos Uploaded to Flickr</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/06/15/yahoo-photos-start-migrating-your-photos/' rel='bookmark' title='Yahoo Photos: Start Migrating your Photos'>Yahoo Photos: Start Migrating your Photos</a></li></ol></p><p>This article, <a href="http://tech-buzz.net/2008/02/04/back-up-your-flickr-photos-using-flickredit/">Back up your Flickr Photos using FlickrEdit</a>, was published at <a href="http://tech-buzz.net">TechBuzz</a>. If you&#8217;re someone who likes to own everything free, you might want to try <a target="_blank" href="http://www.glorylogic.com/index.html">BurnAware Free</a>, an inexpensive (read, free) alternative to the CD/DVD burning utilities available in the market today.</p><p>BurnAware enables you to accomplish most common disc burning tasks, such as, burn data to almost any type of disc, including blu-ray (BD-R/ BD-RE); create audio CDs from WAV, MP3, or WMA files; create and burn disc images (.ISOs); write DVD-video files (like VOB files) to a DVD; or write multi-session discs to all supported media formats.</p><p>The interface is neat and simple to use. The best part is it does not contain any annoying spyware, adware, or banners. The landing screen contains different burning options. Once you select an option, the screen minimizes to your taskbar (similar to Nero and Roxio) and a new window appears, allowing you to customize whatever task you selected.</p><p><img border="0" width="400" src="http://www.glorylogic.com/images/burnaware.jpg" alt="BurnAware Free Edition" height="306" /></p><p>Using BurnAware, you can leverage full support for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats. The utility works on all the current hardware interfaces and contains auto-verification of written files.</p><p>Currently in <a target="_blank" href="http://www.glorylogic.com/whats_new.html">beta</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.glorylogic.com/index.html">BurnAware Free</a> operates on Windows 98/NT/2000/XP and Vista (32 and 64 bit), and supports unicode for multi-byte languages.</p><p>Stories you may like:<ol><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2006/11/29/get-ashampoo-burning-studio-2007-for-free/' rel='bookmark' title='Get Ashampoo Burning Studio 2007 for Free'>Get Ashampoo Burning Studio 2007 for Free</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2007/09/03/nero-8-is-due-on-october-1st/' rel='bookmark' title='Nero 8 is due on October 1st'>Nero 8 is due on October 1st</a></li><li><a href='http://tech-buzz.net/2006/08/08/aol-launches-free-antivirus-software/' rel='bookmark' title='AOL launches Free Antivirus Software'>AOL launches Free Antivirus Software</a></li></ol></p><p>This article, <a href="http://tech-buzz.net/2008/01/23/burnaware-free-a-free-cddvd-burning-software-with-blu-ray-and-hd-dvd-support/">BurnAware Free &#8211; A Free CD/DVD burning software with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD support</a>, was published at <a href="http://tech-buzz.net">TechBuzz</a>.
