This means that BlackBerry OS devices will get Bing search and maps with voice search and more by default. This however could also mean that RIM has a new BlackBerry OS planned for this year. Perhaps we could see a QNX based OS before the end of this calendar year. We’re hoping for the best.

BlackBerry is certainly not having a good time compared to other OS’. This could just be what they wanted. Yesterday they let out a shocker by saying that the BlackBerry OS 7 would not be supported on older devices. It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the end. Bing has teamed up with Dealmap to launch Bing Deals, which aggregates offers from various providers like Groupon, Living Social, and Restaurant.com to name some.

Bing Deals is accessible from m.bing.com for mobiles, and they are also rolling out Bing Deals for desktop. Interestingly enough, Bing Deals is available for iPhone and Android Devices, but not on phones using Microsoft’s own Windows Phone 7.

While Windows Phone 7 users might feel a bit cold about this, Bing Team justifies this move by saying it only works on HTML-5 enabled phones. Remarkable isn’t it?

Bing Deals would soon be including flight information from airfare aggregator Kayak. Google on the other hand is in front of an inquiry over its proposed acquisition of travel data firm ITA.

Read more about Bing Deals on Bing Community

Stories you may like:

Bing search is now the No 2 search engine in the world

Bing Shopping simplified to get better query results

Search Twitter with Bing – Review of Bing’s New Twitter Search Engine!

This article, Bing Adds Bing Deals – Daily Local Deals, Travel and More, was published at TechBuzz. The numbers are quite interesting.

Google’s total market share last month was 89.94% with Bing at second place with 4.37% followed by Yahoo at 3.93%. Though Google has seen a minor fall in its market share since August 09 (before which its share was above 90%), its competitors still have a lot to make up.

It must be noted that, even though Bing has a slender advantage over Yahoo worldwide, it doesn’t really benefit from Yahoo’s loss in market share in certain parts of the world, since Bing powers Yahoo’s search results in some countries like Brazil, Australia, Canada and the US. In the US, Yahoo still has a slight advantage over Bing, with 9.74% of the market share compared to Bing’s 9.03%.

Microsoft have been endlessly funding Bing with a goal to overthrow Google as the number one search engine, but it doesn’t seem likely considering the dominance Google has over Bing and Yahoo.

Via: StatCounter

Stories you may like:

Google’s Twitter Search Engine Challenges Bing’s Twitter Search Engine!

Search Twitter with Bing – Review of Bing’s New Twitter Search Engine!

Yahoo Alpha – Customizable Search Engine

This article, Bing search is now the No 2 search engine in the world, was published at TechBuzz. Bing’s Twitter Search Engine now allows users to search for popular tweets across Twitter.com. Although it is in beta testing, the service is made available only for US users.

Bing.com/twitter opened at the Web 2.0 summit yesterday. The beta version of Bing’s Twitter Search Engine was made available for use.

But Google wasn’t quiet for long, as Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience made a quick announcement, saying:

At Google, our goal is to create the most comprehensive, relevant and fast search in the world. In the past few years, an entirely new type of data has emerged — real-time updates like those on Twitter have appeared not only as a way for people to communicate their thoughts and feelings, but also as an interesting source of data about what is happening right now in regard to a particular topic.

Given this new type of information and its value to search, we are very excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.

Marissa Mayer is expected to make a presentation at the summit, and more details over Google’s Twitter Search Engine are expected to be disclosed.

But for now Bing has a lead and has Google beat! Google doesn’t have a product to showcase at the Summit, as Mayer was quoted saying : “we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months” implies that Google has no actual product at the moment, to showcase its agreement with Twitter.

Stories you may like:

Search Twitter with Bing – Review of Bing’s New Twitter Search Engine!

Yahoo Alpha – Customizable Search Engine

Microsoft To Launch New Search Products For Businesses

This article, Google’s Twitter Search Engine Challenges Bing’s Twitter Search Engine!, was published at TechBuzz. The idea of accessing data in real time has been an elusive goal in the world of search. Web indexes in search engines update at pretty amazing rates, given what it takes to crawl the entire web and index it for searching, but getting that to “real time” has been challenging.

The explosive popularity of Twitter is the best example of this opportunity. Twitter is producing millions of tweets every minute on every subject you can imagine. The power of those tweets as a form of data that can be surfaced in search is enormous. Innovative services like Twitter give us access to public opinion and thoughts in a way that has not before been possible. From important social and political issues to keeping friends up to date on the minute-by-minute of our daily lives, the web is getting more and more real time.

Search needs to keep up. Shortly after we launched Bing, we did an experiment with the team at Twitter, where we took a fairly small number of “celebrities” from Twitter and provided access to their tweets as part of the search result. Here is a great example.

But what if we take that to the next level? What if we indexed basically the whole public Twitter stream and made it available to customers?

We’re glad you asked that. Because today at Web 2.0 we announced that working with those clever birds over at Twitter, we now have access to the entire public Twitter feed and have a beta of Bing Twitter search for you to play with (in the US, for now). Try it out. The Bing and Twitter teams want to know what you think.

How does this all work?

Were you as fascinated by the 6-year-old boy floating away in a balloon as we were? Was it a hoax? We know that people are going to twitter more and more for information surrounding all the latest chatter.

You can now search for what people are saying all over the web about breaking news topics, your favorite celebrity, hometown sports team, and anything else you use Twitter to stay on top of today.

The search results on people’s tweets will show up like this:

If you want to keep an eye on this topic, you can just watch the Tweets roll in. Or, click on “See more Tweets about…” to go to a page full of Tweets. On that page, you can change the ordering to “Best Match.” Here we arrange Tweets differently. If someone has a lot of followers, his/her Tweet may get ranked higher. If a tweet is exactly the same as other Tweets, it will get ranked lower. For example, I saw a Tweet from ABC News ranked pretty high in the Best Match mode during the “boy in the balloon” fiasco. By the way, you won’t see any of your tweets if you protected or deleted them, and tweets don’t last more than 7 days in our index.

I personally like the idea of the tweets not lasting more than 7 days in Bing’s search index. This will probably cause less cluttering up of tweets and information overload for similar tweets. Overall this is a very nice feature for Bing users.

More from Bing Community:

Are you a Taylor Swift fan? Just think of all the links that are shared on twitter that have to do with Taylor. To help you find these links we sift through and find the most interesting and hot trending links that other search engines usually don’t pick up on.
