iPhone Dev Team has not released an official utility to jailbreak iOS 5, but MuscleNerd confirms on Twitter that you can jailbreak iOS 5 GM using Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for Mac or Windows.

If you happen to own a jailbroken iPhone or an iPad, then this means you can safely upgrade to iOS 5 and jailbreak it! The catch is that, Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for iOS 5 is a tethered jailbreak. It might sound disappointing for some because tethered jailbreaks requires you to connect your iOS device to your computer every time you run out of battery juice or reboot your device, but until Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5 is made available, this sounds like a viable option.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5 with Redsn0w 0.9.9B2

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for Mac or PC

2. Get IPSW for iOS 5 Beta 7 (Only iOS Developers have access to download iOS Beta, but you can try your luck on filesharing networks)

3. Connect your iOS device to your computer, and launch Redsn0w application.

4. Your iOS hardware will now boot jailbroken!

What’s New in iPhone 4S?

Apple has decided to not change anything in terms of physical design from the iPhone 4, by maintaining the same chassis and color combination. Inside the iPhone 4S there is a brand new Apple A5 dual core processor processor with 7x faster graphics, a better 8MP camera which can capture crisper images and shoot 1080p HD video without a hitch. All of this will be running on iOS 5. The new iPhone 4S will come in 16, 32 and 64GB of storage capacities priced at $199, $299 and $399 respectively on a two year contract. Sprint has joined the list of carriers that will launch the handset in the United States along with AT&T and Verizon.

A couple of software upgrades will also make way with the iPhone 4S. We’ve all heard a lot about iCloud over the past few months. But today Apple revealed a new voice guidance service called Siri which will guide users with every aspect of their device including sending texts, setting up reminders etc. Sadly though, Siri comes only with iPhone 4S and previous versions of the iPhone aren’t compatible with this cool new feature.

When is iPhone 4S Hitting Stores?

The handset will be sold in the United States starting from October 14 followed by 22 other countries on October 28. Apple plans to launch the handset to the rest of the world by the end of this year. In conclusion of the event, we were a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see the iPhone 5 being revealed, but we are sure Apple has a special date reserved for that too.

Wow, this certainly seems interesting. We have come across numerous leaks of the alleged iPhone 5 (or 4S), mostly in the form of leaked cases and covers. But now, just a few days prior to the official announcement, we have a leak of what seems like the final (running) prototype of the iPhone 5. We can’t say for sure if this is the real deal until Apple officially announces it this coming Tuesday, but this does seems like something we could be looking at next week. It seems like the video has been taken in a bar since we can hear clinking of glasses, so this could be an Apple employee with access to the device just taking a brief video in a bar (or it could be something else). What’s surprising is that the way the video concludes.

Looking at the device itself, we can make out that the display is bigger than what we have seen in the iPhone 4, perhaps a 3.7 incher. The screen stretches out more than what we have seen in the iPhone 4, so that could be the reason why the display looks considerably bigger. We love the slim look of the device, but sadly the demonstrator didn’t show off the back portion of the device so there’s no way to know if there are any changes at the back. The body is not entirely different than the iPhone 4, but it seems a bit taller than before. The left hand side of the device features the same volume control buttons as the iPhone 4, so that makes us feel that this could be the iPhone 4S that we’ve been hearing about since months. We can’t wait till Tuesday for Apple to finally reveal the new iPhone. Take this video with a pinch of salt till then. The new iPhone is supposed to roll out with a faster A5 processor, an 8MP camera, an upgraded RAM and a bigger display.

Well, thanks to the source we have confirmed that this piece of news is entirely fake with the video having many loopholes. Guess this was one of the ways to get the fans excited or to simply promote the game that the person is seen playing in the video.

The range of Macbook Airs and Mac Mini has been refreshed by Apple. The new Macbook Air will now have a faster processor (2.5 times faster) with the 1.6 GHz and the 1.7 GHz processors. It will also feature the new Thunderbolt I/O port which is seen in the 2011 Macbook Pro and the 2011 iMac. These Mac netbooks will be available in two variants as before in 11 and 13 inch models. With the addition of Thunderbolt, data transfers can be made at speeds of upto 10Gbps. The new range of Macbook Airs will be launched with Mac OS X Lion and will be available from today.

The Mac Mini has gone through a refresh as well with the new range of Mac Minis coming with upto 2 times faster processor and graphics. The Mac Mini will maintain its petite form factor and will come with upgrades similar to the Macbook Air like an improved processor and graphics performance, inclusion of a Thunderbolt I/O port and Mac OS X Lion. The Mac Mini too will be made available from today.

Along with the two machines, the OS X Lion has been launched today. Users can head over to the nearest Apple reseller to get it or download it online by heading over to the Mac App Store. This new iteration of Mac OS will cost $29.99.

Well, the iPhone 5 has been talked about for quite some time now. And we’ve heard more than just a couple of rumors so far. But it seems like we can’t have enough of the iPhone rumors, not until it’s launched. Well, newer rumors have surfaced on the web which involves a couple of people belonging to the production unit of the new iPhone in Taiwan. According to the sources, the new iPhone is “complicated and difficult to assemble”. What does that say now?

Well, it is also being said that the new iPhone will be a lot slimmer and lighter than its predecessor which was one of the thinnest phones at the time. It is also almost certain that the new iDevice will feature a 4 inch display making it bigger than its predecessor. This could mean that handling the phone would be much harder. No wonder the manufacturers find it hard to assemble the phone. The new iPhone will start shipping in Q3 or in other words a couple of months from now, though the launch date could be postponed indefinitely. The rumor mill also suggests that the iPhone 5 will have a stronger and sensitive 8MP camera instead of the 5MP one.

Apparently, the iPhone 4S will start production from August and should be ready to be sold within a couple of months. And as far as the leaked image goes, Apple has allegedly warned Global Direct Parts to take down the image which violates many of Apple’s manufacturer copyrights. Lion will be bringing with it over 250 new features. Multi touch gesture controls is found in most Macbooks, so Apple has decided to build it into the OS. Apple then demoed the Mac App Store and other new features that come with Lion.

iOS :

First off, Apple’s notifications system has been rather disappointing to say the least. Well, Apple is planning to change that with a single spot with all your important notifications displayed in a bar like layout called the “Notification Center”. Users will have to scroll their finger from top to bottom. Apple has also improved the Twitter integration with a single sign on. For every application that you download from the App Store, you will have to confirm your Twitter credentials and not log in with your username and password all over again, basically a time saving feature. And Apple has integrated deeply with Twitter this time, with the ability to share read articles on Safari, or share pictures from your gallery and camera as well. With iOS 5 Apple will be introducing the “Split Keyboard” feature which is basically a easy to use keyboard with which you can type using your thumbs. Also, all the update on iOS 5 will now be provided over the air (OTA). The iOS 5 will be made available this fall and will be compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1 and 2 and iPod Touch devices 3rd Gen and above.

Safari:

Apple has improved the user experience with the default iOS browser (Safari) by implementing the “Reader” feature as seen on the desktop version of the browser. Also enabled is the “Reading List” feature, wherein you can save an article on the web and read it later at your leisure and convenience and it seamlessly syncs with Macs, Windows Desktops and iOS devices. Tabbed Browsing is also enabled on Safari for iOS 5 (finally). Users can now easily switch between tabs without having waste much time. Of course, one could switch to a window on iOS 4, but here all the tabs will be clearly visible on top.

Camera:

The basic iOS camera will be subject to some enhancements, mostly functionality based. You can now access the camera with a shortcut button in the lock screen. Irrespective of your phone’s security pass code availability, pressing the button will let you take a few snaps. Users can also take snaps by pressing the volume up button on the device and pinch to zoom function now available when taking snaps as well. Enhancement features are taken care of with a one click access to the iPhoto app to edit and give the picture your personal touch.

iMessage:

A feature known as iMessage will be launched which will be a competitor to the well established BlackBerry Messenger. This basically would connect with all your iOS 5 devices, which basically means that you can start typing a message and start again from where you left with your iPad or the iPod Touch. You can also click pictures and share it in iMessage, not just text. Works over 3G and WiFi

iCloud:

iCloud as we all know is cloud based storage service, and this time Apple has taken the cloud service a step further. By seamlessly integrating it with all iOS devices. Say you have an iPad and you upload a file. Say you add a new file, the iCloud service basically pushes it to all your devices (wire-free). Similarly, you can sync your mail, calendar and contacts on iCloud. The best part however is that the iCloud service will be provided by Apple for free. The iCloud Storage APIs will also be launched for the developers, which is pretty good news for the devs. iCloud also includes, “Photo Stream” which saves all your photos to the cloud without having to manually do it, cool eh? And the auto upload will be carried out to Macs as well. And lastly the “iTunes in the Cloud” feature, this basically will send all the newly purchased music to the cloud and other iOS devices that you have, free of cost. For a user to activate the iCloud feature, all he has to do is login with his Apple ID and that’s it, you’ll be good to go. But users will have to wait till Fall for the iOS 5 to be finally released.

We have been speculating Apple to launch the iOS 5 and expecting them to shed some light on the cloud based music service as well. And now Apple has confirmed that they will indeed be unveiling the iOS 5 and the cloud based music service named iCloud at the WWDC on June 6. Along with iOS 5 and iCloud, Apple will also be demonstrating the Mac OS 10.7  Lion. And what’s better is that CEO, Steve Jobs himself will present the keynote address accompanied by other Apple execs and officials at 10 AM on June 6th.

We love the fact that Apple will be showing off iOS 5, Mac OS 10.7 and iCloud of course. But we would have been a tad happier if Apple would provide more info on iPhone4S or iPhone 5 perhaps. But we never know, Apple might be keeping it as a surprise for us. For all we know, iOS 5 could be demoed with the new iPhone. We can’t wait till June 6, can you?

The boy sold the front plate and back plate individually for $169 and $135 respectively and sold all three parts which included the power button for $279. After this came to Apple’s notice, they have taken down the website and had claimed compensation and reimbursement for the stolen parts. But now they have taken back the lawsuit by dismissing claims against him, which indicates that Apple has reached an agreement with the family of Lam. It was just another day at the office for Apple, it’s commendable however that they reached an agreement with the family rather than dragging them to court and stretching the matter further.

Aircel claims that customers can recover the cost paid by the customer to acquire iPhone 4 with free text messages and talking time under their tariff plans.

Aircel iPhone 4 Tariff Plans:

Unlocked iPhone 4 are already selling in the black markets of India, and this move by Aircel was long overdue. Better late than never, but Apple really needs a tighter strategy to market their iPhones in India. Important point to note is that Aircel is selling locked iPhone 4, which means you be glued to Aircel tariff for a minimum of 2 years and you cannot switch your service provider. Aircel is anticipating that the “recover-the-cost” model will work out of them. We will have to wait and watch if Aircel’s iPhone 4 tariffs are good enough to lure customers away from buying unlocked iPhone 4 in India.

Talks have been spreading over the web about iOS’ newest iteration. At the same time there are these owners of the iPhone 3G and the 3GS who are rather worried if Apple would roll out the new iOS update to their handsets. And now a well known source has tweeted that the iPhone 3Gs could not receive the iOS 5 update. Here’s what he exactly said – “Just one comment. Apple iPhone 3Gs wont be upgradable to iOS 5.x. iPhone 4 will.” That leaves some questions unanswered, for all we know he could be referring to the plural of the iPhone 3G by stating it as 3Gs or he might just be talking about the 3GS.

Apple has not stopped the production of the iPhone 3GS and they’re being sold even today. This should give us a hint that Apple would not leave the 3GS owners in the dark. But we cannot rule out the possibility of Apple making it plainly available for the iPhone 4 and the new iPhone. As for this tweet, take it with a pinch of salt for now since it’s not confirmed news.

This is one of those easy to use applications with no complications whatsoever. It makes use of a very simple mechanism. It must be added though that this is not the first attempt by someone to make viewing of 3D content possible on iPhones or iPads. Toy giant Hasbro launched a 3D binoculars which was supposed to make you able to view 3D content on your iOS device. But it was simply not practical enough to carry it around with your iPhone or iPad and it worked only with some specific apps, so that was a disappointment. The i3D app however is an app which makes use of the mechanism inside the device and the front facing camera to give you an impression of 3D. And the best part is that this app does not require glasses to work properly. One of the researchers of the app stated -

“We track the head of the user with the front facing camera in order to create a glasses-free monocular 3D display. Such spatially-aware mobile display enables to improve the possibilities of interaction. It does not use the accelerometers and relies only on the front camera.”

Browsing through the forums, we didn’t find any proper fix for this issue, but users have figured that hard-reseting the device sometimes rectifies the problem by itself. Some have even reported that reseting your network settings temporarily solves the problem. If nothing works, the only possible option is to forget your wireless connection and re-connect your device to the wireless network.

Only small percentage of iOS 4.3.3 users are facing this issue at the moment, and it doesn’t seem like a device specific bug. Apple hasn’t commented on this problem, but a fix must definitely be on its way. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Apple and Google came under sever scrutiny recently when it was realised that the two companies store location data and user movements. And now, during the hearing about the issue Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jason Weinstein said that the two companies should continue tracking user location data for a period of two years. Appearing at a senate hearing called by Al Franken, Weinstein said – “When this information is not stored, it may be impossible for law enforcement to collect essential evidence,”. Apple has already rolled out an update for the location tracking bug but Google hasn’t given out an update yet.

A rep from the Federal State Commission however stated that the companies should track user movements and store location data only when it is absolutely necessary. We must agree that this is not something that we expected, but if its a matter of safety and the country’s security, users shouldn’t have much of a problem as long as the companies don’t make this info easily accessible.

Previously the Amazon Cloud Player was not playable on the default iOS browser Safari but users could still play tracks one at a time (even after the incompatibility warning their device received), and not so surprisingly there’s no dedicated app for the Amazon Cloud Player either. But now, iOS users can play songs from the Cloud Player without any hassles using the Safari browser. We’re not sure as to how this happened, but even after getting the warning, all you have to do is tap continue and just like that you can play tracks more easily than before with all the music controls being functional. The buffering is dealt with quickly and the player even works if you close the browser and put your device on standby. But sadly this looks like a U.S only update for now, hopefully Amazon expands this service to other countries as well. It seems like Amazon is doing something or the other to get the cloud player for iOS up and running. It will be interesting to see if they come up with a dedicated app soon. [Source]

Apart from the processor, the big addition is the Thunderbolt I/O technology which was originally introduced on the MacBook Pros earlier. Thunderbolt is capable of transferring data at speeds up to 10Gbps. 27” iMacs ship with two Thunderbolt ports, whereas 21.5” gets only one. The display continues to be of the same resolution, but now features LED backlit “in-plane switching” IPS and promises to improve color, contrast and viewing angle of the display. The camera on the new iMacs support high definition video calls between FaceTime HD enabled iMacs and standard resolution video calls with iPad 2, iPhone 4, new generation iPod touch and older iMacs.

As far as the number game goes, Apple claim the new iMacs to be 70 percent faster, and the graphics performances in up to three times faster than before. There are two models on iMacs: 21.5” and 27”. Although iMacs are sleek, beautiful and powerful, I have never been a big fan of all-in-one computers. These days manufactures like Dell and HP have caught up with the trend of all-in-one PCs. It’s just that I feel all-in-one PCs combine the disadvantage of laptop and desktop, without the advantages of any. Plus from an upgradability point of view, they are very hard to strip down and upgrade.

That being said, I still love the iMac for a clutter free desk and if you are someone who buys a computer and does not worry about upgrades for the next 5 years, iMac would probably do justice to you.

The location tracking fiasco has been a subject of bother for both Apple and its users. Verizon plans to put up removable stickers for iPhone 4 handsets warning users about location tracking. Its good to see Apple reacting to the allegations and coming up with a fix. More recently, we saw Google being blamed by some individuals of location tracking, the allegations however haven’t been proved yet. Both Apple and Google are supposed to appear before a senate on May 10th.

We also have access to a screenshot which suggests that the 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch devices, the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4 are very likely to get the iOS 5 update. It is also being said that the iPhone 3GS and the original iPad may get the update. Early builds of iOS 5 could be made available to the developers as part of testing. This however means normal users like us will have to wait for some more time. We could learn more about the the new iPhone and the iOS 5 from Apple at the WWDC next month.
