But Apple has now decided to fight that as the company is said to have not been involved in the talks with the other publishers. It was originally accused that because of Apple’s agreement with the publishers, consumers were made to pay a whole lot more than the original price. The reports state that the consumers might have lost in excess of $100 million because of the said agreement.

It is believed that the five prominent publishers met at a hotel in London to talk about increasing the prices of the eBooks, though Apple seems to have been absent from that affair. Apple’s agreement with the publishers to not sell the eBooks for cheaper elsewhere (other stores) and giving them the liberty to set their own prices is believed to have led to all this. It must be noted however that Apple doesn’t set the price of the eBooks sold in the iBookstore. If proven guilty, Apple will have to pay about $200 million in fines, which doesn’t seem like a lot for the company.

Apple’s lawyer Daniel Floyd speaking to the U.S District Court, said – “Our basic view is that we would like the case to be decided on the merits. We believe that this is not an appropriate case against us and we would like to validate that.”

[Source] [Via]

Stories you may like:

Fixing Blurry Text Anti Aliasing Issue in Firefox

Another Price Drop on iPhone coming soon?

Kindle Fire from Amazon to Fight Apple iPad with Price!

This article, Apple Will Go To Trial In The eBooks Price Fixing Issue, was published at TechBuzz. As the source rightly points out, Intel’s new offering will aid next gen Macs/PCs. There is every possibility that we would see the Macs being refreshed this year, as the rumors suggests. So the timing for the launch couldn’t have been any better. Intel also has a low voltage variant, the U-Series all set to make its way to the market.

Also making its way apparently is the second generation Thunderbolt controller. Although it seems more like a cost cutting upgrade rather than a performance based one, it should help OEMs save a few bucks. Thunderbolt will be implemented in non-Mac devices starting from this year and we could see a variety of OEMs implementing this new technology. This next gen Thunderbolt tech is codenamed Cactus Ridge. If you look into the Thunderbolt controller comparison chart, you will notice that the DSL3510 (3.4W) is the most powerful of the lot and it comes with a variety of internal Display port inputs. This makes it very likely to be implemented in future iMacs and PCs. DSL3310 (2.1W) however is a notebook friendly controller with its power saving capability. The lineup of iMac was refreshed last year in May with Thunderbolt.

So while this news is very enticing, it might take a while for OEMs to implement it in their respective notebooks/PCs. And remember, Thunderbolt isn’t just an Apple affair this time around.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Intel Joins $100 Laptop Project

Intel to layoffs 1,000 managers globally

Intel unveils sixteen new processors, but remains tightlipped on the actual street date for its quad-core offerings

This article, Intel Ivy Bridge Processor Breaking Cover On April 23, was published at TechBuzz. What makes it more interesting is the fact that it’s coming straight from the production unit. This however doesn’t make the news instantly believable, so you might want to take it with a pinch of salt which is what you should do with most rumors.

The head of human resources at the company’s Taiyuan unit said – “We just got the order. It [the release] will be around October”. And when asked about hiring more workers he went on to say, “Yes, it’s true we are hiring a large number of workers,”. It seems like Foxconn is running a headhunt to find employees for its assembly line.

The news apparently has been confirmed by a local newspaper which got in touch with Foxconn after reports broke out. So the news coming from two different sources seems to be somewhat of a confirmation, but we wouldn’t believe in it until the very last minute. The new iPhone is said to pack a reformed version of the A5X chipset packed with 1GB of RAM and some other unique feature that we haven’t heard of yet. It’s hard to maintain secrecy with Apple devices, and it seems like the surprise will be given away soon (again).

[Source]

No related posts.

This article, Next iPhone To Break Cover In October According To A Foxconn Employee, was published at TechBuzz. According to reports, Apple is currently running the revamped version of the A5X chip with an older iPhone’s casing to test its performance. The new iPhone is said to sport the fancy new chip which is slightly tailored/scaled down to fit the smartphone’s needs. All those extra pixels in the original A5X is unnecessary for a relatively smaller iPhone, so Apple decided to make some tweaks to the chip. Either way, it will be one hell of a smartphone when made available. Full details about the new iPhone are yet to be known, but this is enough to go with.

Also on board is 1GB of RAM which is another major upgrade from the 4S which had a mere 512MB of RAM. And while people are expecting a slightly overhauled display as well, it seems very unlikely. But we cannot rule out anything as of now. So we can expect an overhauled iPhone coming this fall along with the new iPod Touch as reported earlier. The iPhone prototype with the tweaked A5X chip for now is known by the codename N96 in Apple’s internal listing, that could easily change in the coming days though.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Apple “iPhone 4S” Could Launch With a GSM SIM Card Slot

iOS 5 May Not Be Rolled Out To the iPhone 3GS [Rumor]

iPhone Responsible for 50% of Apple’s Revenue

This article, The new iPhone Will Feature 1GB Of RAM, Revamped A5X Chip, was published at TechBuzz. Ever since the fourth iteration of the iPod Touch was announced, it hasn’t been refreshed. We were expecting it to be refreshed along with the iPhone back in October, but it seemed to be a very miniscule upgrade by merely adding in a new color variant. But it is now believed that Apple could be looking to revamp the iPod Touch line with a 5th gen device. According to a file found inside an internal iOS 5.1 build, the iPod Touch is tagged under 5,1 which indicates anupgrade over the previous version (tagged 4,1).

It’s not known whether Apple will launch the new iPod Touch this coming fall when the new iPhone is slated to break cover, but it does make sense for Apple to launch both the devices together as it has been the trend. The iPod is one of the most sought out media players in the market today and Apple wouldn’t want to ditch it anytime soon. It is hoped that the new iPod Touch will have the same A5X chip which is known for its boosted graphics performance. So it seems like there is more than one iDevice to look forward to this fall.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Apple Doubles Storage on iPhone and iPod Touch

iPod Touch now runs iPhone Apps

Glasses free 3D technology to be implemented for the iPod touch?

This article, Fifth Gen Apple iPod Touch This Fall?, was published at TechBuzz. Well, the source has accessed the Apple Care document that Apple sent out to its stores which clearly mentions the symptoms and the conditions at which the plagued iPad is to be received and replaced. If you recently got a new iPad and are having Wi-Fi related issues like slow connection speed, unstable connection and not being able to see a Wi-Fi network at all you are an eligibile candidate for the replacement.

In the company’s own words – “In the United States, contact centers and retail stores should capture iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi only devices if they exhibit any issue related to Wi-Fi”.

The Wi-Fi bug persists only in the third generation Wi-Fi models of the iPad. Thankfully enough for Apple, the 4G+Wi-Fi models of the iPad seem unaffected (as of now). We’re not sure if all the new Wi-Fi only iPads are affected by this, but the forums are currently flooded with complaints so a large chunk of the customers are complaining. A bug like this would generally be solved by a software update, but it seems to be a hardware issue here. Apple would want to resolve this particular bug before it grows larger.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Apple Has a 7.85-Inch iPad Prototype In Its Labs

iPad Clearance Sales Pisses Apple Fan Boys Off!

Apple offering exchange of iPads with iPad 2s to some educational institutions

This article, Apple Replacing iPad 3s Plagued With Wi-Fi Bug, was published at TechBuzz. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the device is being prepped for launch. He said with certainty that there is at least one mini sized iPad being played around with in Apple’s labs.

Before we go ahead with this story, we must realize that Apple often tests certain prototypes before bringing it into circulation or making it public. This means that there could have been an array of prototypes of various Apple devices that the company must have ultimately ditched. The point here is that, we have no reason to get excited about this new smaller sized tablet since it’s still a prototype. For all we know, it could have already been ditched. Its existence however isn’t being disputed.

Gruber speaking to The Talk Show said – “I’ve heard from multiple people that this is something that they’re kind of noodling with”. He also went on to say that this version of the iPad runs on a native resolution of 1024×768. Well, with the iPad 2’s prices being slashed to make way for the new iPad, it is unlikely that Apple would want a smaller budget ranged iPad in the market.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Apple offering exchange of iPads with iPad 2s to some educational institutions

iPad Clearance Sales Pisses Apple Fan Boys Off!

UK iPad Buyers Jump-in Before Apple Spots their Mistake!

This article, Apple Has a 7.85-Inch iPad Prototype In Its Labs, was published at TechBuzz. Evidently the number of app downloads is beyond imagination, and given the immense popularity and demand for the apps, Apple is about to reach 25 billion AppStore downloads. The total downloads has crossed 24.2 Billion already and the 25 billion mark could take a while to reach. Interestingly, the AppStore crossed the 10 billion downloads last year so this is a remarkable feat to say the least. Apple has set up the app counter online and the user who makes the 25 billionth download will win a $10,000 AppStore gift card. Apple is the most profitable electronics company in the world right now and that is evident with the amount of support and fan following its products has. The company made $4 billion in AppStore revenue which speaks volumes of the company’s dominance.

Needless to say, users are eager to be part of the AppStore counter and want to win the $10,000 gift card. Interested users can alternatively apply to take part in the contest. Looking at the pace at which things are going Apple could easily break the 25 billion mark as well as the 50 billion mark in the coming years. The $10,000 reward seems pretty enticing, so what are you waiting for? Register yourself if you own an iOS device.

[Via]

Stories you may like:

Apple pulls out VLC media player from the AppStore

iOS AppStore crosses 10 billion downloads

Apple to Focus On the Quality of its Apps Rather Than Merely Increase the Number

This article, Apple Sets Up A Counter For The 25 Billionth AppStore Download, was published at TechBuzz. Some reports indicate that the new update is to be launched with the iPad 3 which is slated for a March 7 (not confirmed) announcement. And mind you, iOS 5.1 isn’t a minor update. This is said to bring a lot of new features to the table and fix a bunch of bugs at the same time. And now we have realized two of the new update’s features. The leak comes from Portuguese site BlogdoiPhone. Well, for starters the new update is said to bring Japanese Siri support. It was previously believed that Siri would support a few new languages with the new update. So that’s great news.

Next is the lockscreen camera shortcut improvement. The screenshot from the pre goldmaster release of iOS 5.1 shows that users can slide the camera icon upwards to launch the camera app instead of having to tap it. Yes, it’s not convenient, but we figure it’s to avoid the accidental clicks. Makes sense? Well, this is a neat tweak and we can’t wait to test it out. We’re not really sure if users still have to press the home button twice whilst in the lockscreen to reveal the camera icon and media controls (like before). So with Siri support for Japanese and this neat camera shortcut tweak, we guess iOS 5.1 is something to look forward to.

[Source][Via]

Stories you may like:

Try Evi For iOS And Android To Get The Siri Experience

Digsby Supports Facebook Chat

An 8MP Camera for the iPhone 5 Predicted After Sony CEO’s accidental revelation

This article, iOS 5.1 Screenshots Leak ; Lockscreen Camera Shortcut Tweaked, Siri Supports Japanese, was published at TechBuzz. Well, when we say it’s for developers, we mean it. Only developers with a paid account can download the update immediately. Users will need a Mac running on OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or OS X Lion and have a minimum of 8GB on their hard drive for the OS to install. It is being said that OS X Mountain Lion borrows heavily from iOS 5 (and the iPad), which doesn’t come as a surprise. It is advised to download the update only if you have a backup Mac to test this new OS on since it’s relatively new.

Along with the developer preview of OS X Mountain Lion, Apple has bundled a bunch of neat tools to guide developers with app development and coding. There’s iOS 5 SDK and OS X 10.8 SDK bundled with the update as well. Also included are a bunch of guides on how to write/develop new apps that are compatible with Game Center, Mountain Lion, Gamekit etc. Paid developer account holders can head over to the Mac App Store to download the new OS X Mountain Lion and test it out. Download the update and let us know how it went. The process has been detailed by the guys at 9to5 Mac.

Stories you may like:

Apple Launches The New Macbook Air and OS X Lion

Apple WWDC 2011 Announcements: Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5, iCloud and More

Apple to Show Off iOS 5, iCloud and More At WWDC

This article, Apple Releases OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview, was published at TechBuzz. The introduction of the iPad 2 only made things better for Apple with the sales going over the roof. Sadly for Android OEMs, their tablets arrived a little too late into the mix. Maybe that’s why these tablets are still slowly catching up with the growing and steadily changing market. The only Android tablet with significant sales figure has to be the original Samsung Galaxy Tab which was very unique for its time. But the sales figures of Android tablets post the iPad launch has been nothing to write home about.

And now it is being reported that the Apple iPad has sold more units than the Samsung Galaxy Tabs in South Korea. This is ironic since Samsung is a Korean company, so it has a distinct home advantage. Despite having an edge over Apple, the tabs have been outsold by the Apple iPad. This comes as a surprise to us all. But that’s what the figures state with the iPad’s market share in South Korea being 70-80%. That’s a handful. Things however could change in the coming days when quad core droid powered tablets arrive, but at the same time there is the Apple iPad 3 in tow (quad core A6 chip rumored) for a March announcement. We would expect Samsung’s home country to have some faith in the company, but that’s clearly not the case here.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Samsung Galaxy S II Launches in South Korea, Will be Followed By Other Global Markets

T-Mobile U.S Selling Refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tabs for $99.99

Apple to Sue Samsung Over Trademark Infringement Row

This article, Apple iPads Outsell Samsung Galaxy Tabs In South Korea, was published at TechBuzz. Gold Master is nothing but the final version, which will soon be made available for mass consumption. Guess what? iOS 5 GM has already been jailbroken using Redsn0w 0.9.9B2

iPhone Dev Team has not released an official utility to jailbreak iOS 5, but MuscleNerd confirms on Twitter that you can jailbreak iOS 5 GM using Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for Mac or Windows.

If you happen to own a jailbroken iPhone or an iPad, then this means you can safely upgrade to iOS 5 and jailbreak it! The catch is that, Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for iOS 5 is a tethered jailbreak. It might sound disappointing for some because tethered jailbreaks requires you to connect your iOS device to your computer every time you run out of battery juice or reboot your device, but until Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5 is made available, this sounds like a viable option.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5 with Redsn0w 0.9.9B2

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.9B2 for Mac or PC

2. Get IPSW for iOS 5 Beta 7 (Only iOS Developers have access to download iOS Beta, but you can try your luck on filesharing networks)

3. Connect your iOS device to your computer, and launch Redsn0w application.

4. Your iOS hardware will now boot jailbroken!

Stories you may like:

iOS 4.3.2 Tethered Jailbreak Out Already

Creator of Cydia Tells Us Why One Should Jailbreak Their iPhone

Users Facing WiFi Connection Problems After Upgrading to iOS 4.3.3

This article, Jailbreak iOS 5 with Redsn0w 0.9.9B2, was published at TechBuzz. Apple announced the fancied new iDevice at the ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event held in Cupertino today. Sadly though there was no announcement of the iPhone 5, much to fans’ disappointment. It is however pleasing to know that the iPhone 4S has a bunch of impressive upgrades under the hood.

What’s New in iPhone 4S?

Apple has decided to not change anything in terms of physical design from the iPhone 4, by maintaining the same chassis and color combination. Inside the iPhone 4S there is a brand new Apple A5 dual core processor processor with 7x faster graphics, a better 8MP camera which can capture crisper images and shoot 1080p HD video without a hitch. All of this will be running on iOS 5. The new iPhone 4S will come in 16, 32 and 64GB of storage capacities priced at $199, $299 and $399 respectively on a two year contract. Sprint has joined the list of carriers that will launch the handset in the United States along with AT&T and Verizon.

A couple of software upgrades will also make way with the iPhone 4S. We’ve all heard a lot about iCloud over the past few months. But today Apple revealed a new voice guidance service called Siri which will guide users with every aspect of their device including sending texts, setting up reminders etc. Sadly though, Siri comes only with iPhone 4S and previous versions of the iPhone aren’t compatible with this cool new feature.

When is iPhone 4S Hitting Stores?

The handset will be sold in the United States starting from October 14 followed by 22 other countries on October 28. Apple plans to launch the handset to the rest of the world by the end of this year. In conclusion of the event, we were a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see the iPhone 5 being revealed, but we are sure Apple has a special date reserved for that too.

Sidenote: At the time of drafting this post, Apple.com is down!

Stories you may like:

iOS 5 May Not Be Rolled Out To the iPhone 3GS [Rumor]

Apple “iPhone 4S” Could Launch With a GSM SIM Card Slot

Production of the iPhone 5 to Start in July or September

This article, iPhone 4S Announced – Point and Shoot Killer?, was published at TechBuzz. We have come across numerous leaks of the alleged iPhone 5 (or 4S), mostly in the form of leaked cases and covers. But now, just a few days prior to the official announcement, we have a leak of what seems like the final (running) prototype of the iPhone 5. We can’t say for sure if this is the real deal until Apple officially announces it this coming Tuesday, but this does seems like something we could be looking at next week. It seems like the video has been taken in a bar since we can hear clinking of glasses, so this could be an Apple employee with access to the device just taking a brief video in a bar (or it could be something else). What’s surprising is that the way the video concludes.

Looking at the device itself, we can make out that the display is bigger than what we have seen in the iPhone 4, perhaps a 3.7 incher. The screen stretches out more than what we have seen in the iPhone 4, so that could be the reason why the display looks considerably bigger. We love the slim look of the device, but sadly the demonstrator didn’t show off the back portion of the device so there’s no way to know if there are any changes at the back. The body is not entirely different than the iPhone 4, but it seems a bit taller than before. The left hand side of the device features the same volume control buttons as the iPhone 4, so that makes us feel that this could be the iPhone 4S that we’ve been hearing about since months. We can’t wait till Tuesday for Apple to finally reveal the new iPhone. Take this video with a pinch of salt till then. And we’ve heard more than just a couple of rumors so far. But it seems like we can’t have enough of the iPhone rumors, not until it’s launched. Well, newer rumors have surfaced on the web which involves a couple of people belonging to the production unit of the new iPhone in Taiwan. According to the sources, the new iPhone is “complicated and difficult to assemble”. What does that say now?

Well, it is also being said that the new iPhone will be a lot slimmer and lighter than its predecessor which was one of the thinnest phones at the time. It is also almost certain that the new iDevice will feature a 4 inch display making it bigger than its predecessor. This could mean that handling the phone would be much harder. No wonder the manufacturers find it hard to assemble the phone. The new iPhone will start shipping in Q3 or in other words a couple of months from now, though the launch date could be postponed indefinitely. The rumor mill also suggests that the iPhone 5 will have a stronger and sensitive 8MP camera instead of the 5MP one.

[Source]

Stories you may like:

Apple “iPhone 4S” Could Launch With a GSM SIM Card Slot

Korean Sources Claim that the iPhone 5 will be Launched in Late June

Production of the iPhone 5 to Start in July or September

This article, The iPhone 5 Apparently Is “Complicated and Difficult To Assemble”, was published at TechBuzz. A leaked image shows the chassis of the alleged new iPhone (4S or 5) which is also said to have a “SIM slot equipped middle frame”. This added feature is for the customers outside the U.S, so that they can add their SIM cards of their choice. But you may ask as to what distinguishes the 4S from the iPhone 4, well not much to be honest. It is being said that the 4S will have a slightly narrower front receiver hole and also a slightly reduced front facing FaceTime camera hole.

Apparently, the iPhone 4S will start production from August and should be ready to be sold within a couple of months. And as far as the leaked image goes, Apple has allegedly warned Global Direct Parts to take down the image which violates many of Apple’s manufacturer copyrights. We’re not sure if this is justified info, but the image certainly looks believable to us, what do you think?

[Source]

Stories you may like:

iPhone Responsible for 50% of Apple’s Revenue

T-Mobile U.S to Launch the iPhone 4?

No iPhone without Credit Card

This article, Apple “iPhone 4S” Could Launch With a GSM SIM Card Slot, was published at TechBuzz. Firstly the announcement of iOS 5 as we had all expected, plus details about Mac OS X Lion and iCloud. The addition of a few handy elements on iOS 5 is the highlight of the event. Apple first demonstrated the Mac OS X Lion, followed by iOS 5(10 features demoed out of 200), Safari and iCloud.

Lion will be bringing with it over 250 new features. Multi touch gesture controls is found in most Macbooks, so Apple has decided to build it into the OS. Apple then demoed the Mac App Store and other new features that come with Lion.

iOS :

First off, Apple’s notifications system has been rather disappointing to say the least. Well, Apple is planning to change that with a single spot with all your important notifications displayed in a bar like layout called the “Notification Center”. Users will have to scroll their finger from top to bottom. Apple has also improved the Twitter integration with a single sign on. For every application that you download from the App Store, you will have to confirm your Twitter credentials and not log in with your username and password all over again, basically a time saving feature. And Apple has integrated deeply with Twitter this time, with the ability to share read articles on Safari, or share pictures from your gallery and camera as well. With iOS 5 Apple will be introducing the “Split Keyboard” feature which is basically a easy to use keyboard with which you can type using your thumbs. Also, all the update on iOS 5 will now be provided over the air (OTA). The iOS 5 will be made available this fall and will be compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1 and 2 and iPod Touch devices 3rd Gen and above.

Safari:

Apple has improved the user experience with the default iOS browser (Safari) by implementing the “Reader” feature as seen on the desktop version of the browser. Also enabled is the “Reading List” feature, wherein you can save an article on the web and read it later at your leisure and convenience and it seamlessly syncs with Macs, Windows Desktops and iOS devices. Tabbed Browsing is also enabled on Safari for iOS 5 (finally). Users can now easily switch between tabs without having waste much time. Of course, one could switch to a window on iOS 4, but here all the tabs will be clearly visible on top.

Camera:

The basic iOS camera will be subject to some enhancements, mostly functionality based. You can now access the camera with a shortcut button in the lock screen. Irrespective of your phone’s security pass code availability, pressing the button will let you take a few snaps. Users can also take snaps by pressing the volume up button on the device and pinch to zoom function now available when taking snaps as well. Enhancement features are taken care of with a one click access to the iPhoto app to edit and give the picture your personal touch.

iMessage:

A feature known as iMessage will be launched which will be a competitor to the well established BlackBerry Messenger. This basically would connect with all your iOS 5 devices, which basically means that you can start typing a message and start again from where you left with your iPad or the iPod Touch. You can also click pictures and share it in iMessage, not just text. Works over 3G and WiFi

iCloud:

iCloud as we all know is cloud based storage service, and this time Apple has taken the cloud service a step further. By seamlessly integrating it with all iOS devices. Say you have an iPad and you upload a file. Say you add a new file, the iCloud service basically pushes it to all your devices (wire-free). Similarly, you can sync your mail, calendar and contacts on iCloud. The best part however is that the iCloud service will be provided by Apple for free. The iCloud Storage APIs will also be launched for the developers, which is pretty good news for the devs. iCloud also includes, “Photo Stream” which saves all your photos to the cloud without having to manually do it, cool eh? And the auto upload will be carried out to Macs as well. And lastly the “iTunes in the Cloud” feature, this basically will send all the newly purchased music to the cloud and other iOS devices that you have, free of cost. For a user to activate the iCloud feature, all he has to do is login with his Apple ID and that’s it, you’ll be good to go. But users will have to wait till Fall for the iOS 5 to be finally released.

And that’s about it. We might have missed a few new features, so let us know about it in the comments section below.

Stories you may like:

Apple to Show Off iOS 5, iCloud and More At WWDC

Not Apple TV – Apple TV experience in your browser

WWDC: iPhone 3G with GPS Launches on July 11th

This article, Apple WWDC 2011 Announcements: Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5, iCloud and More, was published at TechBuzz.
