Apple Beats Microsoft in Terms of Net Profits For the First Time Ever

Apple

Around six months ago, Apple’s quarterly revenue numbers surpassed that of Microsoft for the first time in around 15 years. But even after having a greater quarterly revenue than Microsoft, Apple was still behind Microsoft in terms of quarterly profits. This was mainly due to the high profit margin with Microsoft’s products and software compared to Apple. But now all that seems to have changed after Microsoft announced its net profits for the first calendar quarter of this year.

Microsoft generated a net profit of $5.23 billion whereas Apple’s net profit was valued at about $5.99 billion. This is really an achievement in itself considering the low profit margin Apple sells its hardware for. Apple was able to achieve this feat with the rising sales of the iPhone and the huge demand for the iPad. Some analysts even predict Apple to be the first ever trillion dollar company. Interestingly, Apple had surpassed Microsoft in terms of market capitalisation, having over $100 billion higher than Microsoft. Maybe Microsoft should start thinking about developing a tablet PC sooner rather than later.
