OtherInbox battles Email Overload

otherinbox_logo OtherInbox is essentially a webmail service to combat email overload. It works by creating filters and automatically organizing them into folders, so that it can be easy to read and find. How does it work? During signup, you’ll be asked to pick a username, this username is translated into a personal sub-domain domain (@username.otherinbox.com)

You can create unlimited number of email addresses by putting any alias in front of "@username.otherinbox.com". Any email delivered to that alias will be automatically put into a different folder. For example, you can use facebook@username.otherinbox.com in Facebook or tech-buzz@username.otherinbox.com to subscribe our mailing list; they’ll all be delivered and organized in your account without any configuration beforehand.

OtherInbox can import your existing emails, if your provider supports IMAP. I tried importing my emails from Gmail, and it worked, but it imported randomly skipping the timeline. It might be due to the large number of emails which I preserve in my Gmail account.

OtherInbox is currently in private-beta, if you’d like to be a part of their private beta, sign up using this link: http://beta.otherinbox.com/signup/tech-buzz (works for 25 sign-ups only)

Hello, Thilak. I just wanted to let you know that for now, when importing email into your OtherInbox using IMAP, we search only for relevant emails to import from various shopping, news, and social networking websites, not all emails.

You can find more information about IMAP support on http://gsfn.us/t/lvi.

I just don’t have that kind of traffic to bother!

This is actually ingenious. When I had just read the title I thought this would be equivilant to having a good search feature which could search messages in the inbox and other folders quickly.

The fact that you can sign up to different services with different email addresses is great. It will really show which sites send out spam and which don’t.

This could be useful, if only gmail would put this on their site.

You took the words right out of my mouth, having to expand messages in Gmail is a major headache for me.

Wow, this is quite a slick tool. Mail is the most irritating and hard to keep organized thing there is. So this tool will be like your own email PA.

    I dig!

Since my earlier post, I’ve also fallen foul of Outlook Express. Decided to go along with “compact messages” because it sounded a sensible idea….turns out that “compact” meant “delete never to be found” (:
