If you use a car, Google Maps can provide driving direction. Recently, they also added transit direction for travelers who use public transport. But there are certain locations, where driving or taking a bus can be longer and walking can be short and quick, especially within cities. Up until today, Google Maps didn’t help pedestrians, but Google Operating System is reporting that Google is testing a new feature which provides walking directions.
Google advices you to "use caution when walking in unfamiliar areas", due to the fact that the feature is still in beta. And if the shortcut leads you into a dead end, don’t gripe, but leave a feedback.

One more gadget to drive humanity into robots! Whatever happened to the old fashioned, nice way of asking strangers for directions?

I have actually silently been hoping for a bicycle feature, but this should be a nice addition too.
Sometimes Google Maps gives me the looooooooong way around when something is practically around the corner.
It will probably possible to (ab)use this for cycling as well.
