Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex Gets New Theme

As an Ubuntu user, I always loved the default theme which was shipped with the operating system ever since Dapper Drake. People were expecting to see a visual overhaul with the release of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, but it was pushed down for the next release for some reason. The first alpha of the upcoming Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex was released yesterday, and it includes a brand new visual theme.

The new theme ("NewHuman") is little too brown and I didn’t really like it. Here’s the screenshot taken from Webmonkey:

Apart from this, Intrepid Ibex features loads of updates to the Linux kernel under the hood. The final release of Intrepid Ibex is planned for October of this year, and I hope they come up with something better because I’m not too fond of brown colored themes.

Why can't people criticize the brown theme without associating brown with bad things? This is really getting silly now. that said I do not like this particular brown theme, hope they change it, I am sure I saw some good brown theme mock ups on various sites, this is a dull theme indeed, I do not think it is just brown that is causing the ugliness it is the shade and the lack of gradients and gloss effects brown can be a vibrant attractive color, same way you could easily have an ugly green, blue, gray or white theme but that would not be a cause to say any of these are ugly or talk about how white is puke or other such rubbish.
  • After reading through numerous articles on Linux over the years, I'm really starting to think I could get on with its architecture quite easily.....

Keep the Linux updates and news coming!
  • This new "NewHuman" theme is one of the gratest things the community has done to Ubuntu! I just love it! If they could just add partly transparent menu-bars (top/bottom of desktop), then I would go for this theme! It is as radical as Mac's brushed steel-theme, and how many doesn't love the Mac because of it's look?

  • What exactly do you use ubuntu for?
