As an Ubuntu user, I always loved the default theme which was shipped with the operating system ever since Dapper Drake. People were expecting to see a visual overhaul with the release of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, but it was pushed down for the next release for some reason. The first alpha of the upcoming Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex was released yesterday, and it includes a brand new visual theme.

The new theme ("NewHuman") is little too brown and I didn’t really like it. Here’s the screenshot taken from Webmonkey:

Apart from this, Intrepid Ibex features loads of updates to the Linux kernel under the hood. The final release of Intrepid Ibex is planned for October of this year, and I hope they come up with something better because I’m not too fond of brown colored themes.

  1. That skin looks really dull.

  2. Browner that ****. Damn !!

  3. I meant to say : “Browner than s-h-i-t.” !!

You can’t catch me spell check !!

  4. The theme looks nice. I have been thinking of trying out Ubuntu, is it worth a try? and will all windows apps work fine in it?

  5. I wish that I could use any linux based os. I have to use MS or Apple perforce. I however agree that brown somehow is not quite aesthetic!

  6. I agree with you as I think themes in brown color cannot attract too much

  7. Brown is not a colour I enjoy much myself. It is associated with autumn and the end of a cycle, hardly the kind of colour to use for a fresh new theme!

  8. Its a good idea however I know where all my bookmarks are and where they lead to anyway. So I guess I have no need for this plugin.
