Ever since Microsoft pulled out of Yahoo’s acquisition deal, Yahoo’s stocks have been tumbling. While some Yahoo! investors blamed their CEO, Jerry Yang for not pursuing the deal, others said Microsoft would make a second effort to buy Yahoo, once their stocks are down.
In the mean time, Yahoo! tried to revive itself by signing an advertisement deal with Google. As per the deal, Yahoo! would run AdSense ads along their natural search results in U.S and Canada. The advertising deal is estimated to bring another $800 million for Yahoo!
This deal was not completely about advertisement. The same press release from Google brought some good news to Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk users as well. Both the instant messaging services will soon be interoperable, which means Google Talk users can seamlessly chat with Yahoo! Messenger users and vice versa. This definitely puts Yahoo! Messenger in a stronger position because they have partnered with both Google and Microsoft (for Windows Live Messenger). Yahoo! Messenger users can chat with both Live Messenger and Google Talk users without any third party add-on or Jabber transporter. Sounds cool, doesn’t it?

I really hope someone somewhere (anti-trust authorities) find something wrong with the deal and it falls through.
Its a stupid deal and will achieve nothing other than reinforcing google’s monopoly and pushing yahoo slowly and surely towards death.
How could yahoo do something so stupid?
As soon as they start using adsense they reduce the valuation of their own ad system (as at the moment adsense provides unmatchable cpc). Whatever little advertisers yahoo had would shift to adsense, thus making yahoo wholly dependent on google over time.
This deal is absolutely suicidal.

I prefer yahoo messenger than google talk if they will inoperable then thats very good.

I welcome the interoperability as it is indeed very badly needed. I however still maintain, like I have been in many other forums, that the last has not been heard about the Microsoft take over bid for Yahoo saga.

Seems like Yahoo is just going to slowly be assimilated by Google

Pallab: Yeah, I felt the same way. Yahoo has their own YPN ad network, why the heck would they turn towards Google?
Eventually, I believe, Yahoo is either going to be with Google or Microsoft. Future doesn’t look so bright. Any thoughts on this one?

Whatever happens, I will still use meebo. Its alot easier than having all clients open and even just one, it works with your web browser.

Thats a nice strategy by yahoo. I actually use Yahoo messenger and like it so I guess I only need it now. Goodbye to Google Talk!
