At the ongoing All Things D conference, Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon.com has announced that within next couple of weeks, Amazon will launch a pay-to-stream movie service. More details on this service are not available right now, but he said that it will be separate from Amazon Unbox (which is a video download service).

I’m left with several questions like how much it will cost to stream a movie. Whether or not new titles will be available for streaming? This seems like Amazon’s bet to beat Apple in sales figure, but in the end it all depends upon the pricing and titles. I personally prefer downloading, rather than watching a streaming movie, but if streaming works out to be cheaper, then I’ll certainly ditch downloading. Kindle might eventually go color and have movie streaming added to its feature list! How does that sound?

  1. I’m running a 20mb broadband connection but still get stuttering with streaming. I’m with you, downloading is far better at present.

  2. Yes, unless they are much better than downloading, painful as it may be, I too would prefer to stay with downloading.

  3. I assume this can be a pain in the back for them with people not being able to download media because of problems on their side and requesting refunds. Looks very convenient however.

  4. Streaming can annoying if it’s slow, but I’d hope you can let the video buffer while on pause kind of like in YouTube. If I’m on a slow connection, I’ll just press pause on videos I’m streaming, until there’s enough in the buffer that I won’t have to worry about any stuttering.

  5. That’s a Top Rated idea but a lot of us are just so impatient and spoilt by fast connections. We want everything yesterday.

  6. Don’t know how good it will be. Unless they have a good speed, the whole movie can be ruined.

  7. Nice service, if you’ve got broadband….

  8. I personally prefer downloading too. My internet channel isn’t suitable for watching the streaming movies. I think it’s a bad idea for users with low speed channels.
