While Firefox 3 is on its way, Spread Firefox team is preparing to set a Guinness World Record for the most number of downloads in 24 hours. The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 has not been disclosed yet, but you can help them set a record by pledging to download Firefox 3 on the "Download Day" (which coincides with the release date of Firefox 3).
So far 340,411 people have pledge to download Firefox 3. The current record for most downloads in 24 hours is non-existent, so they’ll set the record no matter what! Campaigns like these are held to promote a better web browser, rather than anything else. Last time, they celebrated World Firefox Day which followed by Friends of Firefox campaign.
Just to make sure you don’t miss it, they’ll probably shoot you an email reminder on the download day. To participate, you just need to download Firefox 3 on the same day. Please remember that only completed download counts. Like always, you can help them to spread the word by placing their banners on your blog, profile page or even in your email signature. They have a special certificate that can be printed for you to celebrate and show off your participation!

I really did not like FF3 because of their address bar search feature. I much prefer the old one that shows up the most visited urls starting with the particular letter you type in. I think I won’t be downloading it. I would have done if they were to send me some sort of certificate though

Thanks for the heads up, I have given them my email address and will download on the day. I think that they are waiting till the numbers are right before they launch so that they can beat the records. They have to take into consideration based on stats from somewere that many people will not download on the day.
I think it is awesome, and yes they need to make sure their servers can handle the download numbers, wow, thats alot of traffic.

Needs a very power servers to guarantee these downloads. In the any case I shall put FF banner on my blog.

It will be interesting to see how many downloads Mozilla ends up with. It will be mighty hard for any other software to beat this record though!
