Facebook recently added a chat feature to their social networking site, which enables you to see online friends and talk to them through Facebook’s web interface. Our favorite chat client, Digsby, pushed out an update late last week which adds support for Facebook chat. Digsby is one of the first 3rd party applications to bring Facebook chat to your desktop.

It features popup notifications, status messages, as well as buddy icons. Facebook chat is quite different from Facebook social network support in Digsby, so you should be adding an addition IM account for Facebook Chat. The addition of Facebook chat takes the list of supported instant messengers to 7 and that includes Google Talk, AOL, MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ, and Jabber.

Besides Facebook chat, Digsby has also improved their Yahoo! Mail implementations. International Yahoo! Mail accounts should now work properly. Those who use Yahoo!’s new mail interface will be taken to the right place for inbox, compose and open links.

Long back, I was using Trillian, then Pidgin… but I kicked both of them after trying Digsby. I feel IRC and Skype is being missed out of Digsby, hope they’ll support them both in the near future. If you haven’t downloaded Digsby already, you can get it from here.

  1. I not convinced by the chat features of social networking. I may have rediscovered lots of old friends and contacts but prefer not to deal with them all directly.

  2. Sounds good, I have heard a lot of people talk about it lately.

  3. I used to login to quickly check my messages and leave. Now people try to get me to chat to them every time I do so. If I wanted to chat I would use MSMN messenger. Besides, almost every person I know on FB has it. So why bother chatting on FB?

  4. It was a smart move that Digsby made there.

  5. All social networks suck up a lot of time if you visit them. For busy people, it is a major nuisance value and the sites have to constantly keep adding features to keep and attract visitors.

  6. Am on Skype myself, with 12 million active online folks earlier this afternoon (GMT+2) there is surely quite a big incentive for Digsby to incorporate Skype?

  7. Its in their best interest to incorporate all the providers, its hard to get people to switch. I am also on Skype.
