Last week, I was a little envious because Okrut decided to skip Brazil, India and launch OpenSocial Apps in Estonia first. Orkut Developer Blog has now revealed that OpenSocial Apps will be available to millions of users in India in about a week.
If you take a look at Orkut’s demographics, 16.90% of all Orkut users are Indians. I’m a little puzzled because Amar Gandhi wrote "OpenSocial apps available to millions of users in India, corresponding to 10% of all orkut users". I’m wondering if they’ll open-up OpenSocial for everyone in India or just until they fulfill their quota. Nonetheless, you can always change your country to Estonia to experience OpenSocial Apps in Orkut. I think it was just about time, they launched OpenSocial worldwide.
For OpenSocial developers, they’ve created a new app submission page. App developers must submit their apps through this page to be included in the app directory. If you have submitted your app already, you have to resubmit your app through this page.
In other Orkut related news, Orkut search bar at the upper right corner (near the logout link) now has a Google Suggest like feature.
As you type the name in the search bar, you’ll see a drop down which will lists Orkut members that match your search query.
Thanks for the tip, Sankar.

Fahad: No clue buddy, but something makes me feel that the worldwide release of OpenSocial is just around the corner.

Orkut coming out with a world wide release, a big step. I do not use Orkut myself, though I probably should join, but it is very exciting to others.

Nathaniel: Oh, nothing surprising about you not being a member of Orkut. Actually, Orkut isn’t wildly popular outside India and Brazil.

Have to concur that the worldwide launch of OpenSocial must be close at hand. Anything that has Google backing it is guaranteed some measure of success, and the luxury of having capital backing it until it becomes a viable entity in its own right.

Wii: Yes, it’s a social network just like Facebook and MySpace. Hugely popular in India and Brazil.
