Turn Your Phone Into a WiFi HotSpot with JoikuSpot Light

Imagine being able to share your mobile’s internet connection with other devices through WiFi. JoikuSpot Light is an amazing little application, which does the magic of broadcasting your internet connection as a WiFi hotspot. It’s free and works on most Nokia (S60v3) phones, which include WLAN chipset (such as N95, N82, E65… etc)

Once the application starts running, other nearby devices can see your phone as a WiFi hotspot and connect to it. Multiple devices can connect to your phone in parallel and share the same internet connection, just like an internet gateway. The latest beta (v1.2) also features WEP Encryption to prevent any misuse.

Another feature in v1.2 is the new battery threshold settings, which allows the application to shut itself down when your battery gets down to a certain level, this can prevent your phone from completely draining out.

I’ve been using JoikuSpot Light for several months now, but lack of encryption was an issue until v1.2 beta was released today. Even though, it’s possible to use my mobile’s internet connection on my laptop through Bluetooth or datacable, I still tend to prefer JoikuSpot Light because it’s extremely simple to configure. Definitely a must-have for PSP, iPod Touch owners!

Wow, this is a great little application. It will be really useful for people who want to use their laptop but are not in a commercial WIFI spot and only have their smart phone on them!

It’s a shame the internet is so expensive on most phones.

Any news on whether this is like to work on Sony Ericsson’s. As luck would have it, I have just defected from Nokia after years of using them. D;oh.
