Last year, Facebook started allowing users to group their friends, but the feature remained useless because not much could be done after grouping. Now, Facebook has rolled out more privacy settings based on groups, which lets users to control what some friends and others cannot. For instance, you can upload your recent trip album with your friends, but hide it from your co-workers.
The company also confirmed that a web chat feature will be launched on Facebook "in the coming weeks". When the chat feature becomes available, users will see a chat bar on the bottom of all Facebook pages. The chat bar will show which friends are online, who are they chatting with currently and other chat controls. TechCrunch has the video which shows how Facebook Chat will function:
Facebook chat looks pretty sleek and impressive, but it’s totally limited to Facebook only. By "limited", I mean you’ll only be able to communicate with your Facebook friends, and not AIM, MSN or Google Talk. No jabber support or APIs for accessing chat functions outside Facebook.
Facebook Chat won’t be accessible on chat applications like Pidgin or Trillian. Even after considering all the minuses of Facebook Chat, it looks way better than Google Talk integration with Orkut.
