NanoScan:The Fastest Online Virus/Malware Scanner

This post is by Abhijeet Mukherjee, a tech enthusiast and is going to start his blog soon.

One of the ways to detect suspicious programs on your computer is by running an online virus scan.Although there are a number of online virus scanners like McAfee FreeScan and Trend Micro, most of them take time and consume lot of bandwidth. But recently, I came across NanoScan, which claimed to scan your PC in few seconds.

NanoScan

It initially downloads a small ActiveX file and then starts scanning.I have to admit that not only it does a comprehensive scan but it is also lightning fast.It took only 31 seconds to scan my PC. Here is the screenshot:

Apart from offering NanoScan, its developer Panda Softwares offers TotalScan which detects and removes viruses, unlike NanoScan, which only does a scan and does not remove it. However, I certainly believe that NanoScan is worth giving a shot and is one of the best online virus scanners available.

While I agree with you that it is pretty fast, I would like to say that a lot depends on Speed. Here in India, more than half of the internet population still uses Dial-ups. So, at least for know, it will find its application in Western states where speed is no problem. nanoScan is great idea, but I will stick to my free aVast antivirus.

    Interesting, thanks for sharing.

I need to try this soon.

Is it better than trend micro. What’s the point of having Nanoscan when it just scans and does not remove the virus.

Hmm, this looks like a handy little site. It tested my computer in 47 seconds with no viruses being found. Although I am anxious to test it with an infected system just to see if it is able to detect the viruses effectively or not.

In just a few seconds? Wow, that is really a good deal.

Uzair- I agree when you talk about speed. In fact this can be a boon for those dialup users who may need to do an online scan

    Shankar- Yup…worth a try

Eva – Main benefit is speed and simplicity.Much faster than Trend Micro scan. And you can use Total Scan to remove them.

Fahad- It does detect infected systems.I have tried that on an infected computer. It detected a spyware.

    Syahid- Yup…good deal certainly :)

If you think NanoScan is good you must try Prevx CSI. CSI is maybe a few seconds slower first time but detects far more than Nanoscan. AND you can upgrade CSI to remove what it finds too. After the first scan any further scans with Prevx CSI are MUCH faster than Nanoscan. I have tried them both many times and CSI finds and cleans everything including rootkits. Nanoscan simply doesn’t cut it in this company.

31 secs is real fast buddy. It’s amazing. I am surprised. Giving it a try right now.

Yeah it looks pretty nice I will try once my PC gets infected :)

Well, it does sound nice and fast, all that appeals to me, but I’m not too crazy about the activeX file though. The TotalScan sounds good too and maybe better. (Though not as fast)

“NanoScan: The Fastest Online Virus/Malware Scanner”

I think the people at Prevx will probably disagree with that statement if you take a look at their CSI scanner ;)

Unlike Nanoscan, it also carries with it the ability to remove all infections it finds (although that does carry a price)…

Having said that, I guess Nanoscan could be a useful tool to check your PC if you fear it is infected.

C’mon guys you can’t be serious about Nanoscan or Prevx CSI… I have tried it with a few infected systems, viruses, trojans and worms…and both the scanners really suck… They only detect the popular and a little old infections…

…and whats the point of detecting viruses after you are infected. I would rather use a good AV in the first place and stay off from bad files!!

Saptarshi: Indeed, I definitely have to agree with you one this one.

well speed is dependent on your PC, internet connection, and in my case, the weather. (i use wireless DSL, affected by the weather sometimes :) )

    nice guide.

Also, if your computer is infected with a RAT (Remote admin tool – that gives full access to the hacker… e.g. you see your mouse moving automatically. LOL )

    Do this >

    1. open CMD (Start > RUN > type: cmd )

    2. Type in: netstat – ano
(it shows all ur network accessing process with their Process identification codes = PID )

    3. if you see a Text like this > ESTABLISHED with a foreign IP, note down its PID.

It will also show the EXE accessing it.

    4. go to TASK MANAGER (CLTR + ALT + DEL)
    – then go to VIEW > Tick PID

    5. in the Proccess TAB > just click that PID process EXE file.

    6. now disconnect your internet & scan your whole Computer with SpyBot SD 1.6 & NOD32 v.4

    7. your are virus free now.

NOTE: you will say why didnt i disconnected internet at Start !! thats cus teh RAT virus will also get exit, will come again whn u access the net & netstat needs internet connection ON to show PID.
