Back in November 2005, Microsoft acquired a service called FolderShare from ByteTaxi Inc. The service allows files and folders to be in sync with each other on both Windows and Mac OS X computers, which is a pretty big deal. Microsoft has finally inducted FolderShare into their Window Live Program, and released a new version of the service with a brand new interface.
If you have a high speed internet connection, you can share files and folders seamlessly over the internet with ease. Syncing will obviously work on slow connections, but it would take a lot of time to sync. However, this shouldn’t be a problem since most of us are already using broadband at home and office.
FolderShare looks a lot like SkyDrive. Infact, most icons used in FolderShare are also seen SkyDrive. The updated version of Windows Live FolderShare Client works perfectly on my Windows Vista machine. I’d love to see FolderShare merged with SkyDrive file sharing service. Its quiet ironic that Windows Live FolderShare doesn’t have Live ID integration, but I’m sure that they have it in their pipeline
