Google has unveiled a new add-on to GTalk, which enables website owners to communicate easily with their audience. It’s called Google Talk Chatback, and it can be displayed on any web page which allows you to insert HTML content. Your visitors can instantly start a chat session directly with you, without needing a Google Account.

If you are already logged into your Google Account, then you can straight away get the HTML code required to embed your chatback badge from this page. Else, you’ll be asked to login before generating the code. There isn’t a whole of options to customize the look and feel of the badge, except for changing the Title, Nickname and showing status message on your badge.

Say, you embed the badge on several websites, and sometime in future you decide to turn it off. If that’s the case, then you don’t need to remove all badges manually, instead you can just disable them all using “disable all previously created badges” option from the settings.

  1. Heads off to get the code and install….

Sounds like a neat addition for those wanting to offer a simple “live chat” or “live help” facility. Presumably it knows if you are logged in and displays that?

  2. You can chat with people on that are visiting your blog? And you don’t need a google account. Huh. I created one with that being one of my purposes.

  3. Why use google talk when you can use cheap phone cards? A quick search shows there are a lot of cheap calling cards out there, like one I found from PhoneCardsAvenue.com . I don’t have time to sit in front of a pc and talk through a microphone. I want the convenience of talking on my PHONE.

  4. This is a nice addon. I certainly foresee some sites using this. Hosting sites, and any type of small support group will find this useful.

  5. Now how if I have such a badge on my own site. Can I communicate with all my visitors which come to my site. And if I can, how can I I just add the code and then when the badge comes they can message me or chat with me immediately. I am still little clueless about how this whole thing works, it would be great if anybody could help me little bit more explaining me this badge in a more detailed manner, if I have to put this badge on my own site.

  6. Jamie, sorry, I don’t see the relevance of your post (other than to promote your site).

Why would anyone come to my site and then go off to get a phonecard…with no idea how to contact me?

I have installed the Google Talk plugin on one of my sites and that works a treat (as long as your are logged in to Gmail). You have access to custom status messages a bit like MSN, nice all round.

All I need now is people to talk to me. One guest said “hi” then logged off, my only “chat to date” (:

  7. I have added google talk on my web page http://www.noniindian.com/answer.html recently and it is working great with test calls. It is a great feature and I love it.I just have the following querries.
    1) Whether the ongoing chat session with one visitor will be viewed publicly by other visitors to the site.
    2) Whether I can chat with more than one visitor or guest at a time.IF so, How to do this?
    3) Whether more than one badge can be put on the same page and can be operated indepently?
    4) What is the safety compromise we can encounter?
Some one please help me with this querries.
    Thank you.
