Last.FM has some interesting announcements on their blog. First of all, they’ve signed up with 4 major record labels and they have come up with a new business model which directly pays unsigned artists for every song that is streamed on Last.FM.

Users can now play full-length songs or even albums for free, but only up to 3 times. Once you listen to a song three times, a popup tells you about their upcoming subscription services which will give you unlimited access to music on Last.FM.

Users from US, UK and Germany can start listening to full-length songs right away. Others need to wait until Last.FM expands their coverage.

Since users can listen to full-length songs upto three times, and artists and labels get paid for every song streamed by the user, I think this announcement from Last.FM will be welcomed by users and artists alike.
