Newsgator has announced that FeedDemon (Windows), NetNewsWire (Mac) and NewsgatorGo (Mobile Devices) are free from now on. Previously, all the three feed readers were commercially sold. Along with this announcement, they’ve also released newer versions of their products.

I’ve tried FeedDemon in the past, and I have to admit that it’s an excellent piece of software for those who subscribe to a large number of feeds. It was commercial software back then, and that was the only thing which stopped me from using it. I guess it’s time to switch back to FeedDemon again.

FeedDemon allows you to import your subscription in OPML format which can be generated by many online feed readers such as Google Reader or Bloglines. If you have a Newsgator account, you can also sync your feeds across several computers and devices.

I’m not really sure, if this the good move by Newsgator as company (especially when their products were selling good). But users will definitely welcome this move with both hands!

You can download or read more about Newsgator’s desktop feed readers in their respective micro-site: FeedDemon, NetNewsWire, NewsgatorGo.

  1. Google Reader is the best. I’ve tried these.

  2. Tech Roach: I used to be a hardcore Google Reader user, but since FeedDemon turned free, I made a switch, and I think it’s really worth it!
