acid2 Microsoft’s Internet Explorer team finally revealed that their upcoming web browser has passed Acid 2 test. For those who haven’t heard of Acid 2, it’s a web standards test to determine whether the browser is complaint to the web standards. A fully complaint browser will properly display the smiling yellow face.

Internet Explorer is still the most widely adopted web browser, and this announcement will certainly bring smiles on the faces of web developers. Only Safari, Opera and Konqueror have passed this test. Firefox 3 which is expected to release in the first half of 2008, has also passed this test.

The announcement actually created a slight confusion. They said IE8 renders the Acid 2 Face correctly in "IE8 standards mode". I’m wondering if there will be another mode to render pages within Internet Explorer 8.
