Cross-Platform Icons for Firefox 3

Back in October, Mozilla revealed its plan to work on customizing Firefox 3 for different platform. User Experience Specialist, Alex Faaborg, showed us an early preview of their icon set for each platform. There will be 120 different icons for XP, Vista, OS X and Linux:

Mozilla plans to be consistent on metaphors and symbols for all platforms. This is to ensure that users don’t find it hard while migrating between platforms.

They’ve also decided to use XP’s Royale texture instead of Luna, which means icons in the final build of Firefox 3 for XP will include even glossier icons (see the screenshot comparing between Luna and Royale texture).

I truly appreciate Mozilla’s efforts to create distinguishable experience for their cross-platform browser. The whole idea is to make it easier for users to switch from their operating system’s default browser to Firefox 3.

  • Yes they have to show new look to users. They need to bring new look to this browser, as people are not getting away as the look is still the same and they have not developed anything since big period.
