Mozilla is putting a lot of efforts into making Firefox 3 better than ever. The latest improvement which may or may not make it into the final release of Firefox 3 is the new tab switching feature which works just like Alt+Tab in Windows.
Currently, this feature is just an experimental extension, but it might make its way into the final code of Firefox 3. The extension will replace Ctrl+Tab shortcut key for switching tabs with a neat Alt+Tab style preview in the middle of your browser for scrolling through your open tabs.
It will also change the small arrow on the right of your tab bar (which will show you the list of open tabs in Firefox 2) into a black box. Clicking on that black box will pop up a black screen which includes the thumbnail images of all your open tabs.
It doesn’t help in saving time or being more productive, but it does look pretty. All fancy looks come at a price, and this one spikes your CPU usages when switching between tabs.

Firefox now takes three minutes to start on my PC. I wonder what went wrong…

Well, I prefer functionality over looks. And as Firefox 3 is going to cause a strain on a CPU, it’s probably not meant for a majority of the medium end CPU owners. Only for the high end PC users, I guess. But one thing I don’t get is why use Alt Tab when Ctrl Tab can do the same? And, Alt Tab is also a Windows feature, and Firefox’s Alt Tab can interfere with Windows’ Alt Tab.

Siyab has a point but I think the Alt Tab feature is that only in name and won’t have the same shortcut. It’ll probably be Ctrl Tab for usage.
