Nokia has just stepped into music sales by launching their online music store in UK. This music venture is very similar to Apple’s iTunes, but it isn’t as impressive as it’s supposed to be. Just about all popular music stores have moved away from DRM, but Nokia isn’t willing to go away it. All tracks sold on Nokia’s music store are DRM`d in Windows Media Format.
Linux, Mac or Firefox users are not welcomed into Nokia’s Music Store. Only the choosen ones using Internet Explorer 6.0 or above can enter. Even Nokia’s flagship handset, N95, isn’t capable of browsing the site (although, N95 appears to be a supported) Weird!
Early reports about Nokia’s music store are very negative. Mashable heavily criticized Nokia by writing “Unfortunately, in the world where even Apple has shunned DRM; Nokia is still clinging to the past.”
C`mon Nokia, you could have done better!
