Orkut is probably the most widely accept social networks in India and Brazil. With a little help from Greasemonkey for Firefox or Internet Explorer 7, you can make it even better. These are some of my favorite greasemonkey scripts:
Reminder: Firefox users need to install Greasemonkey add-on from here before attempting to install these scripts. Likewise, Internet Explorer 7 users need to install IE7Pro add-on to get greasemonkey.
1. Orkut 99% Width – Widens Orkut’s to 99 percent. It’s super handy for those using widescreen. [Install Now]
2. Keyboard Shortcuts for Orkut – Assigns simple keyboard shortcuts to Orkut. You can easily access most frequently visited sections of Orkut using your keyboard rather than. [Install Now]
- Home: Ctrl + Shift + H
- Scrapbook: Ctrl + Shift + S
- Communities: Ctrl + Shift + C
- Friends: Ctrl + Shift + F
- Edit Profile: Ctrl + Shift + E
3. Mass Scrap Deleter – Orkut’s scrapbook is visible to everyone. Sometimes, it’s essential that you delete your scraps so that others won’t spy on you and your buddy’s conversation. This script is better than any other mass scrap deleting scripts. Unlike others, this script doesn’t start the deleting process, if you just go to your scrapbook. Use this URL to start the process: orkut.com/Scrapbook.aspx?&pageSize=30&gultisgod. In the mean time, if you receive a new scrap, it’ll stop deleting. [Install Now]
4. Google Talk Gadget for Orkut – Google poorly integrated Google Talk with Orkut. This script fills the gap by adding the Google Talk gadget to the right sidebar of Orkut. Check out this script, if you want to add the same gadget to the left (I prefer the right one because it’s bigger than the left sidebar). [Install Now]
If these greasemonkey scripts don’t make you happy, then try giving Orkut a whole new look by installing Stylish add-on for Firefox along with this style (sorry IE users, Stylish is only available for Firefox). And now finally, after installing all these greasemonkey scripts and stylish styles, this how Orkut appears on my browser (click on the image to enlarge):
