Mukesh Ambani is the world’s richest man!

Mukesh Ambani The money race is on! Few months back, we wrote that Carlos Slim Helu went beyond Bill Gates as the world’s richest man. And today, Business Standard is reporting that Indian billionaire, Mukesh Ambani, took the first place as the world’s richest man. Putting Carlos to the second place and Bill Gates to the third.

Thanks to the Bull Run in Indian Stock Market, the stock prices of three group companies owned by Mukesh Ambani went up. It took Mukesh’s net worth to $63.2 billion (Rs 2,49,108 crore).

Business Standard compares 5 richest people in the world by their net worth. Two out of five are Indians:

  1. Mukesh Ambani ($63.2 billion)
  2. Carlos Slim Helu ($62.2993 billion)
  3. William (Bill) Gates ($62.29 billion)
  4. Warren Buffett ($55.9 billion)
  5. Lakshmi Mittal ($50.9 billion)

Prior to this, Warren Buffett occupied the 3rd slot and Lakshmi Mittal was in the 4th place. Just last year, Mukesh was nowhere to be seen in the list of top 5 richest people.

Makes me feel all dizzy when I look at their wealth. Is it good to have so much money accross so few people? Ah whatever, at least Mr Bill Gates donates tonnes of money to poor starving people. He may own windows which is nothing on OSX, but he’s a good man :)
