Surfing the web in our mobile devices aren’t as straightforward as we do it in our computer. Typing long URLs, tiny fonts with squeezed graphics are just few of the problems we come across when browsing in our mobile phones. Even the latest and the greatest mobile phones like iPhone or Nokia’s N95 can’t do much about these problems. Rocketshotz is a new service which tries to solve one of the major problems in mobile browsing – typing!
Rocketshotz gives you a personalized page with scores of mobile websites. It’s a little like iGoogle or Pageflakes which purely consists of mobile websites picked by you, no software installation, no typing at all.
It’s really simple to use. Sign up, pick the sites you often visit and they will send you a text message which contains your personalized URL. You can categorically organize your sites, so that it can be easy to visit mobile sites instantly on your mobile phone. It also works on iPod Touch, PSP and Nintendo.
Rocketshotz follows a very simple portal like approach, but it really makes web browsing easy on mobile phones. The downsides, as you would expect, is that you have to configure it in your desktop browser before you can use it. As I said earlier, it’s very simplistic. They could have added more features like recommendation and a list of popular sites based on visits… etc.

It’s a decent idea but surfing websites on anything less than a high end phone is simply painful. It’s like going back to IE without tabs!

I’m happy with the bookmarks available on my cellphone. The bookmarks are enough and doesn’t make much sense to me going to some other site, just to be redirected to another place… Also the personalized URL and SMS ain’t much useful…

I don’t know I have been using it when I travel and it has been better than anything I have seen so far, or been offered by my carrier.
I like the fact that hundreds of available sites are in one place and I can try them out before I put them on my phone.

Saptarshi: You’ve got a strong point there. I’d assume that you are talking about accessing the net using GRPS right? but some people use WiFi, so it might come handy for them.
And then again, there are phones which have damn good browsers!
