It’s really hard to type and search using your cell phone’s tiny keypad. Folks from Microsoft have realized this, and they have come up with new speech recognition based search for Windows Mobile. If you use Live Search application on Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0, you can now talk to your phone and find business and addresses. Here’s a short 2 minute video showing the new voice input feature:

From the above video, the voice recognition feature looks pretty accurate and equally intelligent as well. It can figure out business name and location in a single go. For instance, in the above video, he said "Cheeseburger in Paradise near Honolulu Hawaii" and the app confirms both the location and the business name. Just in case you are inquisitive to see more new features, check out this video (8 min).

Typing using cell phone keys isn’t all that hard when we sit somewhere. But when walking or travelling in a bus, it’s exactly the opposite, and that’s when mobile search is most used. Microsoft has taken a step in the right direction, but can the voice recognition feature work accurately in busy street or noisy location?

  1. I once had a cell that I was able to speak my text messages into and it would write in for me! I thought it was amazing how it worked. Unfortunately I’m back to T-9.

  2. This is an awesome development. Soon I will be able to access all the basic utilities to do my work on the go.
