YouTube AdSense Units Officially Arrive

Few weeks ago, users started noticing AdSense being integrated with YouTube. Google has now officially announced the video advertising scheme with a short video which illustrates it to web publishers and video owners.

AdSense publishers can login to their account and select the new video units from the AdSense setup tab. Then, publishers will have to login once again using their YouTube credentials. Google will then merge your AdSense account with YouTube. Now, you can go ahead to customize and create your AdSense player which looks and fits best on your site.

Your visitors will actually see two ads instead of one. One as a Adsense ad unit above the video player and another as a transparent overlay ad inside video. The transparent overlay ad won’t go away, unless you click on the “x” marker, so it’s quite intrusive. A Live sample of AdSense embedded video unit can be seen on the AdSense blog.

I’m not sure how the revenue will be shared, but it’ll be very interesting if, video owners get a chunk of the money along with web publishers and Google. New video units are currently available to AdSense publisher in US with English language websites. Soon, this will be made available elsewhere, but will it run as successful as anticipated by Google?

As a stick-in-the-mud YouTube lover, AdSense unit outside the video content area is fine for me, but the overlay ad is seriously disturbing. What are your views and opinions about this new money making strategy by Google?

the only problem i see with this is that they don’t allow you to choose the video directly, instead you have to use the category / provider for your videos.

we’ll see how this works out, any extra streams of revenue can’t really hurt anyone.
