When I first installed Vista on my notebook, it didn’t show up the hibernation option. I knew that Microsoft wasn’t so dumb to get rid of hibernation, which allowed me quickly save my computer state and shutdown. But for some odd reason hibernation was not enabled by default. I tried searching all over Power Options in the control panel to turn on hibernation, but with no success. And today, a reader mailed me to ask if hibernation has been removed from Vista.

No, hibernation has not been removed. Unlike XP, Vista doesn’t allow you to turn on (or off) hibernation from the power configuration settings. Here’s an effortless way to do it on Vista:

  1. Click Start, All Programs, and then right click on "Command Prompt".
  2. From the right-click menu click on "Run as administrator". And if the User Account Control prompts you to allow the action, click on Continue.
  3. In the command prompt console, type "powercfg –h on" (or "off" without the quotes) and hit the Enter button.
  4. That’s it!

 Command Prompt

I found it on ezinearticles while Googling.
