We all love keeping over house clean, similarly in computers we love keeping our software up-to-date. The only problem is that we install so many little applications that frequently updating them is a serious time killer. Of course, there are tools like Filehippo Update Checker, Secunia Software Inspector or more recently, UpdateStar. But the problem is that these tools only check for outdated software and provide a list of outdated software along with their download links. Manually downloading individual software and updating it is still a nuisance.
Lifehacker stumbled across a new freeware for Windows called AppSnap, which not only scans for outdated software, but also downloads and installs it for you. AppSnap has a list of software in its database; you can browse software based on categories and install them. Or you may also remove unwanted software using AppSnap.
AppSnap’s interface isn’t as pleasing as UpdateStar, but does the job efficiently. DownloadSquad put AppSnap head-on-head against Filehippo Update Checker and the results were in favor of Filehippo. AppSnap discovered 4 outdated software, but when they ran Filehippo after a while, it found 6 more outdated software.
