Facebook to race against iTunes?

Facebook CEO iTunes is under the threat being overtaken by newly launched DRM free music store by Amazon. And now, rumors are telling the Facebook is also working on constructing a music store of their own. This rumor comes straight from the AllFacebook blog, and he claims that this news was tipped to him by a very reliable anonymous source. He also believes that Facebook has been searching for a new CEO to head this subdivision.

True or fake, only time can tell, but it looks like a very appealing idea. According to Ryan’s predictions, the average users age on Facebook is something like 18 to 25 – the same crowd who most likely own a portable music player like the iPod or Zune, and the same crowd who are interested in purchasing music.

If well integrated with the existing socialness of Facebook, it might surely end up overtaking iTunes. I’m thinking of something like – whenever someone purchase a song from Facebook’s music store, it will be published in his mini feed and all his friends can see or listen to the sample of that music. It would doubtless bring more revenues to Facebook.

iTunes won’t be defeated by competitive competition, they just are losing the monopoly.

I wonder if this music can be easily sent to your iPod? Part of the reason many people use iTunes is the seemless way the songs appear in your music folder then on your portable mp3 player.
