Facebook is finally working on a new feature which will allow users to group their friends as they want them. Facebook’s What’s New page writes:
We’ll let you organize that long list of friends into groups so you can decide more specifically who sees what.
This is something which users have been requesting since a long time. Group will allow users to sort their friends by family, friends or business contacts. Certainly a step in the right direction, but at the same time, it might turn into havoc as it will break several third party Facebook applications.
Pownce has a similar grouping feature which lets you share stuff with people from a selected category. If well implemented on Facebook, this feature should help users to change privacy settings on group basis, and send messages group level as well. For me, this feature will just make Facebook more functional and fun. I just have a handful of real friends on Facebook, other are just seeking to build their friends network. LinkedIn might not like what Facebook is doing.
Another upcoming feature includes digest emails. While Facebook doesn’t spam you with emails, it will surely send a considerable number of emails each day. Most of these emails come from third party applications, but soon Facebook will start sending just one email which contains all the information needed. Clear signs of a college social network maturing and welcoming the world!
