Microsoft lets PC Makers offer downgrade from Vista to XP

Almost all PC makers ship Windows Vista with their computers today. The latest operating system from Microsoft is supposed to be way better than XP from all aspects like interface and security, but unfortunately users don’t really like too much of fancy looks or security. And some of our favorite softwares aren’t compatible with Vista yet!

While Microsoft is making every possible effort to push Windows Vista, the software maker does allow new PC buyers to downgrade back to Windows XP. As of now, the downgrade option is applicable to Windows Vista Business and Ultimate editions only. And its upto PC manufactures to decide, if they want to make the option available.

Fujitsu is the first to start off with the downgrade scheme by including an XP disc in the box with their notebooks and tablet PCs. Hewlett-Packard has also started the program for their business model desktops, notebooks and workstation. Some PC makers like Gateway and HP still sell computers with Windows XP.

It’s quite nice to see Microsoft respecting customers and letting them choose what’s best for them. I’ve come across lots of people who tried Vista, but didn’t like it. I really want to see Microsoft open-up this downgrade option for home users as well. Hopefully, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 will be able to fix most of the issues.

Anyone know if Dell Canada also allows this downgrade right? I am sick of Microsoft’s gimmicky licensing. Can downgrade, but then do we break reimaging rights??

    wow, the saga never ends.
