Digg has always been a social platform for people to submit news and vote on stories. Digg users could add friends to their profile to make it easier for them to see what their friends have been digging, but still Digg isn’t comparable with pure social networks like Facebook or News Corp owned MySpace, however, this might soon change.
According to a report on Business Week, Digg will be unveiling a series of social networking components in the near future which will make Digg go even deeper into social networking. To start with, Digg users will soon be able to create complete personal profile. This will make it easier for you to find like-minded friends who share similar tastes and interests.
You could create groups of friends and share stories which you found to be interesting. By providing more complete personal profile, Digg plans to power-up their existing user base. Users could post links to their other social profile and probably add more photos to their account.
Digg hasn’t made any official announcement yet, but the comments left on the link to Business Week article gave me an impression that Digg users don’t really like the concept at all. Sharing stories seems like a neat idea, but I’m worried about wrongful use of this feature by spammers.
