Microsoft Release Secret Windows Update

Microsoft is under the spotlight again! Few weeks ago, they pushed out a silent Windows Update for all computers running Windows XP or Vista, including those computers which have turned off Windows Update. The update modified nine files which are required for the Windows Update process on both XP and Vista.

Microsoft justified their move by telling that the automatic update was absolutely necessary, without this update users wouldn’t have been able to install updates automatically or receive notifications.

It’s pretty surprising that Microsoft can modify my system files without my knowledge or consent. Although Microsoft didn’t have any evil intentions, how are we supposed to feel safer from hackers, who could probably use the same approach to infect us?

  • Wow! I find that disturbing. It isnt easy to know for sure what microsoft is doing with the files on our computers. Really think they should have been more open about this, and not keep it a secret.
