Yahoo has been working on completely re-writing the codes to build the upcoming Delicious 2. The preview is out and available to those who have been selectively invited. TechCrunch was able to get in and try out Delicious 2. One major change you can see in Delicious 2 is that they have relocated from del.icio.us to delicious.com, which seems to be a reasonably good move because lots of people confuse between their brand name and the domain name.
Here are some of the other new features in addition to the new interface and brand domain name:
- Four new navigational categories on the top of the Delicious site: Home, Bookmark, People, Tags
- New sorting options: Along with sorting bookmarks by how recent or popular they are; you can also sort by alphabetical order and reverse of any.
- The much needed bulk tagging has been implemented
- New tag bar with auto complete feature
- The ability to organize and sort your network of friends and people you watch
- New contextual search engine which allows you to search your own bookmarks, your network bookmarks or all bookmarks.
All bookmarks of those who have been invited have been imported to Delicious 2, but any changes made will be lost when the service goes public to everybody. Invited users can’t invite others, so don’t expect this to go viral and sell on ebay. More screenshots available on TechCrunch

Looks pretty good. Not sure what you mean by “most people getting confused by their brand name and the domain name”. Isn’t their brand name their domain name too? I think meant to say (I think) is that most people get confused typing their domain name out (as it was a difficult domain to type). Just a small thing that made me read twice in your article.

Definitely some much-needed updates - I’ve been thinking for a while that even the slow-moving Digg seems to be updating itself with new functionality faster than Delicious.

I want an invite.

Personally I still prefer the look of Digg. Del.icio.us is nowhere near as enjoyable experience to use.

Matt Arnold: I use Del.icio.us for just bookmarking. Never really used it as a Digg alternative, however, i sometimes find interesting to see rare stuff come up on Del.icio.us. Most of the times, whatever comes up on Delicious, comes up on Digg as well!
