With the success of iPhone, Apple unveiled a new iPod which features the company’s revolutionary multi-touch user interface to enable users to browse and play their library of music, videos and more on its 3.5 inch widescreen display.
iPod Touch is the first iPod to include WiFi wireless networking capability. It uses Mac OSX based software for its touch controls, Safari web browser which allows users to browse the internet as it looks on their computer and YouTube application for watching countless user-generated videos.
Just like the iPhone, iPod Touch also features a built-in accelerometer which changes the display to landscape orientation as you rotate the player. If you’re in music, rotating will automatically switch to cover flow mode, which lets you browse the music by album art. If viewing photos, it will put it landscape mode upon rotating.
They’ve also include an ambient light sensor into the iPod, which automatically adjusts the display brightness and helps conserve battery. It can hold upto 22 hours of audio playback and upto five hours of video playback.
Apple has also unveiled iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store along with iPod Touch. You can browse Top Ten lists of songs and albums overall or by genre, search by album or artist. You can preview the song for free before purchasing and downloading directly to your iPod touch over WiFi. Downloaded songs can be uploaded to your iTunes library whenever you sync your iPod touch with your computer.
iPod touch will be available in 8GB and 16GB flavors later next month. It’s priced at $299 for 8GB iPod Touch and $399 for 16GB iPod Touch.

Very very **** I must say, but I heard a rumor(?) that the capabilities might wear down over time. Maybe it was just a rumor?

Hmm… Thilak, but isn’t it wiser to put in a bit more money to get an iPhone instead. But well, the only prob with iPhone is the lack of 3G.
Anyway, Thilak, I would be glad if you can tell me more about how these Wi-Fi hotspots and stuff work. I’ve never used one. Maybe a tutorial post on that would be great for both us and your blog [Pillar content ... hehe wont forget the blogging days

Sreejith: Yeah, but there are some die hard Blackberry fans out there. And I believe there is a considerable population of people who have already invested on a phone, now they want a better iPod.
Regarding WiFi hotspots, i don’t think i’ll be writing a post on it. WiFi is wireless internet in simpler words. What kinda a tutorial are you seeking? I mean there is a wide range of stuff you can do with wifi. Anything from sharing files to connecting to internet. It’s pretty simple actually! No one would ever need a tutorial for that.

lol. I was just asking. I wish Wi-Fi was more widespread in India. I remember reading an article in the past about Indian Govt planning to setup a lot of free Wi-Fi hotspots across so that everyone can access internet.
Here in my locality, I wont even get EDGE connectivity. Just plain slow GPRS. F*#$ !!!
