Show Your Facebook Profile to Outsiders

Facebook can now show your limited profile to your non-facebook friends or get it indexed by external search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN. They have added a public search box on Facebook’s homepage which lets outsiders find their friends and connect with them. Public search result for your name will contain less information than one could see after signing up. Only your name and profile picture thumbnail are visible to outsiders.

It makes complete sense to make your limited profile accessible to non-facebook members, unless you are shy. For instance, one of your best friends visits facebook for the first time and he wants to know if you are available, so that he can sign up and connect with you.

You can remove your profile from public search listing by changing your Search Privacy options.

Saleem seems to be against going fully public, though I can’t honestly say I understand the reasoning: once your info is out there, well, it’s out there and that’s that. Anyway, I probably will just let mine go public – anyone who wanted to find that info would be able to if they looked hard enough anyway!
