Pownce adds fresh new features

Kevin Rose’s new startup, Pownce, got some nice improvements after over two months. This includes several behind the scene improvements to make their site run faster and smoother. Other new features include:

  • Inline Video Playback and Image Preview: Sending links to video sharing sites such as Youtube, Google, Metacafe, Revver and Vimeo will be automatically embedded into the message, so that you can watch it without leaving the page. Similarly, images from Zooomr will also preview inside the page. However, Flickr, which is reputed as one of the most popular image sharing service isn’t supported yet.
  • Display Your Social Networks & Links: On the right column of your Pownce Page, you can now add links to your other social networking profiles or web sites.
  • Upcoming Event Notifications: You can see the next five upcoming events sent to you on the right column, so that you won’t miss something important.
  • New Preferences: New options to open link in new window and set defaults have been added.

I was expecting some visual changes like new themes or improving existing ones, but I really appreciate the inline video playback and image preview feature (reminds me of Orkut, which recently added a similar feature for its scrapbook)

I’m still having 6 Pownce invites. You can place your invite request through comments (please don’t leave your email address in plain sight, unless you want to be bombarded with spam)

Update: On their blog, they’ve announced that Flickr and Photobucket inline image previews will be coming soon
