Navigation Accessory for PSP Coming Soon

Sony has announced that they’ll be selling an accessory for PSP (PlayStation Portable) which will double it into a GPS based satellite navigation device. According to Sony’s European games unit accessory will be coming in February 2008 with a price tag of 100 ? 150 Euros ($135-$200).

Sony PSP GPS Navigation

The navigation device can be used for both in-car and pedestrian navigation. It’ll support 11 languages which include English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, and more. Users can update their maps database on memory stick using WiFi or the Playstation network.

In addition to navigation accessory, Sony has also announced a TV tuner accessory for PlayStation 3 which will turn your gaming console into digital video recorder. Users will be able to record live TV and watch it later. Unfortunately, both these accessories will be offered only in selected European markets.

I think it’s a good idea to enhance the capability of their gaming devices and make it more useful. People absolutely love carrying devices which combine the functionalities of multiple devices into one. Sony didn’t have much success with PS3, so I believe such accessories will certainly help them boost their sales.

I like the idea of it being available to use by pedestrians too, I haven’t seen that before.

And I like the sound of the PS2 accessory you mentioned, I’d definately be looking to get hold of that.
