How to Speed up Adobe Reader

I’ve come across lots of people who complain about the time required to start-up Adobe Reader. As a productivity junkie, I advice them to try out Foxit PDF Reader, but if you are someone who truly loves Adobe Reader, then you should check out Adobe Reader SpeedUp.

It’s a free utility which helps decrease the amount of time consumed by Adobe Reader to start up. It works by scanning the version of your Adobe Reader (works from version 3.0 to 8.0) and disabling plugins which otherwise consume lot of time to load.

You’ll be giving four different options of speeding up. And the best part is that the utility also lets you to roll-back to the original configuration. I tried tweaking using the turbo mode and the results were pretty impressive. I was able to fire-up Adobe Reader within matter of seconds.

Sounds good but is it really worth the effort? Probably for prople who work a lot with PDF documents. Its just the first instance of Adobe reader that takes time. The following instances load pretty quickly.

Great find. I can’t stand waiting for Adobe to load anytime I want to view a PDF. What I can’t understand though is why Adobe doesn’t try to remedy the problem by integrating their own version of this program within Adobe to begin with?

Yes Howard, as you suggested the best solution is to kick the Adobe’s bloatware (& spyware http://www.google.co.in/search?q=adobe+spying+on+users&ie=utf-8 ) out and use Sumatra or Foxit reader.
