One of the most popular online instant messaging clients, Meebo, is now available in an iPhone optimized version. There is no separate link to the iPhone version. You just have to point your iPhone’s safari web browser to meebo.com and you’ll be automatically navigated to the optimized site.
From what I read on TechCrunch, the only downside is that you’ll be auto-logged off, if you leave the browser to pick a call, send message or whatever. Here’s what Meebo looks like on iPhone:
Other instant messaging apps for iPhone include FlickIM, eBuddy and Mundu. If you compare all these online clients side-by-side, I believe Meebo wins because FlickIM and eBuddy fail to support all major chat protocols. Mundu on the other hand supports everything, but charges users for using their service (pretty ridiculous!)
Apple iPhone owners always complained about the absence of a native instant messenger. And now with apps like Meebo, they don’t have much to worry about. I hope to see some real iPhone apps, for which Apple has to release the iPhone SDK.
