Firefox 3’s download manger will be slightly upgraded with new features. Details and screenshots posted at Mozilla Links tells us how the download manager of Firefox 3 would look and feel like. Firstly, they’ve organized all downloads into active and inactive downloads. While active downloads shows us all running downloads, inactive downloads contain finished or stopped download.

They’ve added a nifty little search box into the download manager which lets you filter your active and inactive downloads to show only matching files. All text links have been replaced with icons to save space and make it look more useable.

One thing I badly hated about Firefox’s inbuilt download manager is its lack of ability to pause/resume downloads. It’s unclear whether they’ve added pause/resume functionality into the new download manager, but by looking at those pause button in the screenshot, I speculate that they exists.

This new download manager has already made its way into the nightly build (development release), so the courageous ones will be able to try it.

I wasn’t able to check it out myself, but from the screenshot it looks pretty good, except for the missing ‘Clean Up’. It was pretty hand to clean finished or canceled download, I would like to see it back in future nightly builds. I would also like to see some more features like sorting downloads based on file type, moving downloads directly to trash? etc crammed into Firefox’s built-in download manager.

  1. well, Firefox always had the the pause and resume option. If you are still using the version 2, then try to pause a download and it will pause and then press the resume button and it will resume too.
