Gmail might be jumping to 9 GB, paid storage plans available

GMail seems to be catching-up with YahooMail, who currently provides unlimited space. Some Gmail users have reported that they’ve been upgraded from 2886 MB to 9030 (which is 9GB).

GMail 9GB Storage

Nearly 90% of Gmail users never really utilize their 2GB storage space, so I guess 9 GB is meaningless for those users. However, this is certainly a step in the right direction for those who are running out of storage space. Initially, I was pretty excited to hear this news, but my account still shows 2.8 GB. Hopefully, my account will be upgraded soon.

Google Storage Price Google is also selling additional storage space for $20 per year for 6 GB. Other storage plans include: 25 GB for $75/year, 100 GB for $250/year, 250 GB for $500/year. This storage space can be utilized for different Google service (currently only Picasa Web Albums and Gmail). You can manage and buy more storage space from here. We can expect more Google services to be added and the pricing might fall sooner or later, but as of now I think it’s heavily overpriced.

I think Yahoo is doing reasonably well in terms of storage. YahooMail now provides unlimited storage. And Flickr provides unlimited storage for all ‘Pro’ members (just $24.95 bucks a year).

in some aspects, gmail is surprisingly disappointing, - eg, it doesn't show the size of each message, for the lofty crap that you'll never need to delete "another message"! now, my gmail has reached its limit and google is dangling a 20 dlrs price tag before my eye, trying to trick me into buying more space for my gmail, while yahoo is now offering unlimited space... sometimes i cannot believe how stupid and arrogant the gmail team are except they did a really good job in fighting spam...

  • 9 GB Gmail, wow thats great news, but I guess no one will be using it completely.
  • Yeah, but doesn't that seem a bit pointless? I mean, I can go out and buy a stack of DVDs and burn my songs and movies on there, and that costs way less.
  • Now people use email ids to store songs movies etc. for them 2 GB is nothing.
